I have gone with Cleric. Battleguard of Tempus to be more accurate. These are pretty allround characters. They can tank, cast summons, have both defensive and offensive magic, and they've got these axes.

    AXES! :D

I have to agree with the "Druid" vote. They've done a great job of using 3e rules to make a "real" druid, not just a heavily handicapped fighter/cleric like in the BG games. The spells and special abilities are so much fun to use. I particularly like my druid's Shambling Mound form feat - with a sudden flash my little dwarf is towering over everyone, bigger than life and twice as ugly! Wouldn't THAT make you need a change of underwear if your opponent did that as you charged towards her... Run away! Run away! :D

The only thing I would change: I think that conventional animal forms such as wolf or bear should function as "invisibility" in certain outdoor environments. This would work well with Wilderness Lore- "ah, I see from the tracks that in this neighbourhood I'll fit right in doing some scouting as a black bear. Turn your backs, everyone, I'm about to change".

    - the werewolf wanna-be

Let's hope future "dales" and "gates" and "nights" will make our dreams come true :)

[IMG] At least a few people voted for rogues!! And you thought I was going to go with a pally! :p

Although I've heard a lot of people roll rogues under the bus, I think they can be one of the most effective party members, and the most fun to play! I mean, they can do everything: Scout, PickPocket, Stealthy Attack, ranged weapon support, Trap disarming...I love my halfling rogue!!!

He has one level of Ranger (for ambidexterity and two weapon fighting), weapon finesse to use dex bonus instead of strength, dodge, and add a cat's grace spell, and your rogue is pretty deadly! The key is to have your rogue be the mobile piece in any battle!

I'm always controlling my rogue's attacks! Moreso than any of my frontline fighters! I make sure that he is always behind the target to get a backstab attack, and makes full use of potions and ability enhancing magic to make his attacks as lethal as possible! So far only my half-orc fighter/barbarian is stronger in combat...Even better than my paladin  !

While the Sorcerer (or Sorceress), Cleric, and Rogue classes are all pretty cool I think my favorite has to be the fighter class. I know that it is pretty vanilla, but with all the bonus feats you pick up fighters can be highly specialized or highly versatile characters. Right now I have two in my party, one who fights from range with pole arms and bows and another who mixes it up with hammers and long swords. Each has a variety of feats to maximize their potential to excel in their roles. They just plain rock… At first, I thought I would only use the fighter class as a dual class to other characters, but after playing through with one in my party I can’t imagine not having one. Plus if you give them 2 or 3 levels of rogue they can take advantage of evasion, uncanny dodge, and they do some sneak attack damage!

    Go Druid!

I love this class, the can survive as a tank, and their spells kick butt. The walls and area effect spells have been a huge help in combat. I cast them strategicly, then put my tanks in a row to keep the monsters in the hot spots.

Add a little Ranger or Fighter, and druids rock.

    :good:

[IMG] i find the sorc really fun to use, but i've gotta go with the battleguard of tempus for the versatility; s/he can do the normal clericy stuff and also serves as a pretty effective defensive wall for the spellcasters when things get a little iffy. :)

I have always played a wizard in any RPG/CRPG I have played - so I am partial to them. The fact that scroll distribution is so poor in the game makes me a Sorcerer through and through.

    I like the Druid.

They did a great job in converting the class from the 3E rules. It is a very good class to have in your party as either a support character or as an attack character. And I love the shapechange ability!! The class is much improved from the previous games.

multiclass Paladin or druid/sorcerer. I hate that rogues are underpowered and can't even set snares or detect traps automatically

Fighters... Big, strong, heavily armored fighters... armed with 2 handed weapons... Lotsa hit points... Lotsa damage... Maybe keep a cleric and a wizard/sorcerer around to haste/boost strength/etc. around. But fighters.....definitely fighters...improved critical..weapon specialization...feats out the wazoo... :D
