Did you like Chult or not?

    [​IMG] Potential Spoilers in this topic for those who have not been to Chult yet.

    I am curious about whether or not players enjoyed Chult. I started out enjoying it and the battle with the Guardian was awesome and challenging. However I have some fundamental problems with the game design here.

    1. You cannot sneak inside and play the chapter through as intended if you have a paladin in your party. It's either kill your paladin and ressurect him later (playing the snake temple without him) or just kill everything below and lose out in exp in the process. I thought this setup was unnecessary and stupid.

    2. You cannot explore and annihilate everything in the temple and face the Guardian as well. I see no reason why one should have to exclude the other.

    I really felt ripped off when after significant effort I killed the Guardian but could not celebrate the victory.

    Anyone have a similar experience? Or do you think there is value in this approach in splitting your options?

    erm, you can have a paladin with you when exploring the temple, but not a pure paladin, that is a paladin without multiclassing.

    For the sake of role playing, the designers have to do so. Paladins are stubborn people who just wouldn't do anything sneaky. Their job is to kill evil at first sight, without question, no jury whatsoever. In reward for their stubborness, gods give them special power.

    I did expect something a bit more from Chult. It was great fun though but I wanted to explore of Chult and the like. I thought the idea of crawling through a jungle was way cool.

    You can kill everything in the temple, and face the Gauardian. I always do so, do all the quests inside the temple, than kill everyone and then kill the Guardian (lot of experience and fun:)). As for paladin, simply don't let him to speak with anyone :D

    I found the traps in Chult extremely annoying. Worse than any other. Other than that, it proved a nice challenge (the prayer room surely did) and I really liked the setting...

    And the righteous should not walk in the shadows, but in the glory of the light, so they can smite the wicked! :)

    I didn't really like Chult all that much, because as soon as I found all of the pillars, I brought them all together, and bam! The Guardian. I slaughtered him, but I never got a chance to finish exploring the dungeon! That pissed me off tremendously. How was I supposed to know that would happen!

    I've only played through once, and everyone attacked me, so I hit them back.

    It was a bit tedious I thought (not realising that there was more to it really) since I obviously had a pure paladin in my party.

    Oh well, next time I'll at least MC the Pally.

    [​IMG] Misiek, I am curious about how you killed everything and then killed the Guardian and weren't then trapped in Chult. Because that's exactly what I did and unlike you I became trapped. My paladin didn't talk to anyone either.

    Teeck and Faragon I appreciate you perspective on paladins and I would normally agree however the game logic (if there is any) is inconsistent here. How can my paladin agree to work for evil duergar with the intent to wipe out an entire monastery (the only reason being that they're in our way) on the one hand yet on the other hand not tolerate wearing robes and sneaking around?

    These game scenarios are capricious, random, and frustrating. I wish they would abandon any lame attempt to inject morality with certain characters and just reveal the game for what it really is all about: combat.

    I mean can anybody honestly say: wow that's really cool and authentic that the pure and holy paladin won't put on the robes? Uh nevermind the fact that he just about kills anything in his path regardless of alignment (what about those rangers and druids hiding in caves before the ice temple?). It's a farce with no purpose.

    And what's the great benefit of being restricted from being able to face the Guardian and clear the temple as well?

    By the way I only got 1400exp for killing the Guardian I thought that was kind of low even if my guys are 13th and 14th level.

    As for the Monestary, I'm not sure. I deliberately didn't take that option, because I trust monks more than I do evil duergar. But iirc there was something fishy about the monks as well. Could be wrong though, but that leaves a window open for the Paladin to smite them with Divine Vengeance :D

    As for being trapped in Chult, after you kill the guardian, the portal is closing. If you wait to long, for example you sleep, the portal will close. The people in the lowerleft bottom of the map will warn you.

    And while the game may be about combat, I think it's good there are some rules from actual roleplaying left. A Paladin is a holy warrior, not one who hides in shadows to backstab someone. If they see evil, they vanquish it, instead of lurking about. If the game were pure combat, it wouldn't be fun imo.

    I "obviously" did not have a "paladin" of any sort when I first went there and I did not bother with the robes, so the Yuan-ti all seemed to die. I found out about other quests later on. The solution to the paladin problem is to not have a lame paladin, or more seriously, keep them invisible the whole time that you are there.

    There's nothing lame about paladins, I use one to very good effect. Anyway, if you don't care much about roleplaying, you can just kill him before you go into the temple and resurrect him once everyone inside goes hostile.

    I think I am being misunderstood, I don't think paladins are lame in fact mine is my favorite character out of the party. What I find "lame" is the sudden and inconsistent morality the game designers throw at you for what I find to be no good reason at all.

    The whole thing about turning down gold or gifts in return for completed quests makes sense. The sensing of evil creatures posing as neutral or good ones I think is a good play as well. But unlike BG I & II the pure paladin (or any good character) has no compunction about working for evil characters or killing good and neutral creatures.

    Faragon I am down with the whole smiting for divine vengeance purposes thing but be honest how does it play out that a paladin will go to work for evil dwarves? It doesn't no matter how you spin it.

    Taluntain, I appreciate the suggestion but I discounted the option of killing my paladin immediately, that's a really dumb way to adventure.

    Party: "Sorry bud we had to kill you back there because we just couldn't afford not collect on exp."

    Paladin: "No worries mate I would have done the same thing if I was in your shoes, thanks for the ressurection and all, now let's carry on our merry way of slaughter."

    Yeah now there's some great roleplaying.

    When I say that this game is all about combat with little roleplaying I say that with frustation. I do think the combat system is great but this arbitrary use of roleplaying is schizophrenic and self-defeating.

    1400 exp. is far to few, but all of your party members who were standing near to dying Guardian get a bonus 12Hp(i'm not quite sure about the amount), and 10 Acid Resistance, and as for me that is quite a reward. As for killing the Guardian i have tried various combinations of spells and so on, until killed him (i wa trying 30 or so, times but i've managed to do so). The temple is easy to clear if you just stand in the room where the head of the temple lives. Everyone will come there to attack you if you attack someone, and if you are well prepared they can do a little harm to you. After clearing the Temple just rest and prpare to battle The Guardian...

    Gorgonbreath, I see what you mean by forcing the Paladin into certain things. It is silly that a multiclassed paladin would use the robes and a vanilla would not. They are still both lawful good...

    The opposite is true as well. Sometimes the evil options are a bit lame. I found some of the quests in Targos almost forced the "good" onto the party even if they were chaotic evil...

    Paladins are not lame, IWD2 has made them lame.

    I work on creating adventures for pen and paper role play. And i think i have come up with somethin kinda cool.. and thought i would give you guyz a taste, as part of it Deals with Paladins, and their.. Odd Tastes in IWD2.

    I have an elemental Alignment System added to my game.. Soo...
    Warlock: (More generic Term than Paladin)
    Holy ~ Paladin
    Dark ~ Death Knight
    Fire ~ Dragoon
    Energy~ Ronin
    Nature ~ Ranger

    Just a few of them, i have around 8-10 total.. All of them are equivalent to being a Paladin, as far as ability and skill, but have their different alignment and values.. Adds something to the role play when you want a Tank with minor magical skillz, without having to always be so moral.. I think..
