Hi!

I don't have Icewind Dale 2 yet and I'm trying to make my characters while I wait. I have looked all over for information on charater creation, but somethings I haven't found and others conflict with each other.

1) How many ability points do you get in each stat, and how many points do you get to assign during character creation? I have heard at least five different variations.

2) I have heard that a race that, let's say, has -2 in Dex will start out in character creation with 2 less points than normal in Dex and can't put as many points into that ability. Is this true?

3) Let's say that I make a Rogue and multiclass him off to a Bard at level 4. If he had 6 points in Find Traps when multiclassed would I be able to put any more points in this skill as a Bard, since it is a cross-class ability that he can't get as many points in?

4) Are there any cool class or race specific items that I should know about before character creation?

1)Start out with ten in each stat, with 16 points to put where you want.

2)Take a moon elf for example. they get +2 DEX and -2 CON. So that means, that before you put your 16 points where you want, you're stats will be 10 12 8 10 10 10, and while creating your character, can only get CON to 16, but can get DEX to 20.

3)When multiclassing to a bard, you would still be able to get points in that skill, but instead of one skill point cost for it, it will take 2 skill points for every one point you want in that skill.

1) You start out with 10 in each stat (except with racial bonus/penalty) You can assign 16 statpoints.
2) Yes, he will be start out with 8, and his maximum will be given a -2 penalty.
3) Not sure. I seem to recall it doesn't stack with multiclass. Could be wrong though, because I haven't tried out multiclass yet.

I looked at some of the items, and in the ones shown there weren't very many race, class, or alignment restrictions on them. Is this true through out the game? Or do the more powerful weapons have more restictions?

 

No item I have found has a race restriction on it. Many of them have class restrictions and a few have alignment restrictions.
