In that case, would you recommend turning the Bard into a Rogue at around Level 10, or would his Rogue skills be good enough that I can go with another class ?

Bards get their last song at L11, thats what you should aim for.

You dont even need to pick up Rouge levels to be a decent rouge. Any charecter with high Int will find himself at a loss as to where to spend his skill points, allowing him to pick up rouge skills.
We recommend starting off with 2 levels of Rouge for such a charecter since [1] you get additional skill points to spend at L1 as a rouge and [2] the rouge's 2nd level Evasion ability.

    Bard/rouge sounds fine.

I've just started my third party, and it's the party I listed earlier: Fighter, Barbarian, Paladin, Cleric, Bard and Wizard. I've only killed a couple of goblins so far, but this party seems better at fighting. The Fighter has studded leather armor, the wizard has none, and the rest have leather armor, which should suffice for this area. I've scavenged most of my weapons and stuff from bodies. Hopefully, this party will lend itself to fighting better as the game goes on.

What difficulty level are you playing at? What weapon types have the three fighter characters used their starting feats on?

I'm playing at the normal D&D level. The Fighter used their feats on Axe, Flail and Large Sword, the Barbarian on Large Sword, and with the Paladin I added a feat to Bastard Sword.

Just as an FYI, Clerics get one point in Mace for free. I love a cleric with a mace ;)

As stated before, I don't think you need to import weapons in on normal level, there is enough lying around for you to use. I usually horde everything I can and then have my highest chrisma character sell off everything to get better stuff.

And just so you know, I have yet to beat this game. I typically get a party through to about chapter 2 or 3 and then start over because I don't like a character or I come up with some crazy idea. My current game, however, is a solo Monk who just entered the Dragon's Eye (Chapter 5 or 6).

Good luck to you and for the most part, I think you can beat the game with any party, it's just that some require different tactics than others.

Bastard sword is an unusual approach for Paladin but there are some nice magic bastard swords around which hardly ever get used.

I gave the Cleric a feat in Large Sword, because he already had one in Mace, and I wanted him, and the others, to be proficient with weapons that do different types of damage. That way, I don't get caught out if one type of damage doesn't work on a particular enemy.

I gave the Paladin the Bastard Sword because I wanted a weapon that I felt a Paladin would use.

Sadly, I can't play this game right now, because the computer with IWD II on it has screwed up, and it needs to be fixed.

    @Vassago
eh wat :hmm: I know that Battlegaurds get Weapon Focus: Axes but I have never heard of the same for maces. Clerics get all Simple weapons by default.
I always get someone or the other 1 proficiency point in Bastard Swords. Thats the only point I spend in weapon, armor or sheild feats. Take a level of Fighter and you get everything for free.

That is odd, I just checked the detities and none of them get Maces. I know that I always have my clerics with a mace, but I don't recall where I get the point in Weapon Focus. I know I don't add it in from the get go. Oh well.

**Edit** Ah ha! Maces are considered simple weapons in IWD2.

I think i saw this hint somewhere above, but it is a good one so i want to repeat it: Try one or two of the premade parties, and look at how it is buildt up and try to make something similar. These parties are not "very powegaming" like, but have a good chance of success as they are focused on what is important in this game.

Icewinda Dale 1 & 2 are probablly the games i have ever played that crosses the most genres, i would classify it as Action/strategy/puzzle/RPG Light.

Yeah, in some ways, the pre-made parties are actually better than ones you can make yourself, precisely because they are NOT powergame builds. Sometimes it is more fun to play when your characters have a few weaknesses rather than being uber-heroes. They are however, well designed enough for you to be able to finish the game with them without too much trouble.
