I know a number of people on these boards have long praised the game but I just recently got it and thought I'd add my voice to those who have been encouraging others to check it out.
I'm playing a half-ogre and some of what the game makes great and really caught my attention is the rampant racism your character faces depending on the race you play. Also, racism crops up in other areas so far in the game elsewhere. Certain races are relegated to certain social status. At the same time your ability to develop a character isn't dependent on race (though some races are better at some things)which is something that bothers some about BG2. Definitely some interesting role playing along with fun character development and story.

[IMG] I can only join in your praise.

But you see, praising that game on these boards is blasphemy!
    And I am Extremist, so:

Hee, i'm thinking of getting it. Sounds really cool. PCGamer didn't like it much but screw them, their brains don't go past mindlessly shooting aliens.

I don't understand. Why is blasphemy to praising this game on this boards?

PC Gamer didn't like it much? They just gave it best RPG of the year, IIRC. I read the review because I was thinking about getting it, and it sounded like they loved it for it's depth and replayability and ...other stuff. I still haven't goten the game, I have enough stuff to play and enough work to do without a $50 game. Maybe when the price comes down.

Cannibal Penguin: the UK PC Gamer and the USA PC Gamer usually have different scores for games, seeing how it depends on the staff. I remember that the USA version of PC Gamer gave Alpha Centauri, a game that I love, 98%, whereas the UK version gave it 91%. There's bound to be minor variences, or major ones now and again .:)

[IMG] It's no blasphemy to praise it here. Extremist is just surly because I didn't make a forum for it. But, as everyone knows, SP is (A)D&D only. Nothing personal, it's just that I have my hands full with coverage of these games already and couldn't deal with any extra.

Also, as everyone knows, you can discuss any game here in Whatnots...

Ah yes, Arcanum... I got it recently, but I haven't been able to play it very much yet. It's looking great, though.

    /me joins the praising
