    Ultima 4.

Actually, I had played the Gold Boxed Series, but it was Ultima 4 that took me to an entire level of gaming. The vastness of Britannia, the cities, the dungeons and all those people to talk to and learn about the land. Blew me away. Ultima 5 is my all time favorite. What's yours?

I have all ultima games icluding alkabeth. Mine would have to be ultima 8: pagan, the game was HUGE! My only complaint was the numerous and ultimately annoying jumping puzzles.

Yeah, seems like you have everything don't you? :)

I couldn't stand Ultima 8, way too arcade like with its jumping here to there, running around then having to jump again. Ultima 9 was a huge flop and I can't understand why they didn't look at their past. Ultima 4 to Ultima 7. Great games. I think Richard got hit over the head when Ultima 8 started.

[IMG] I liked Ultima 5 the best. I played that game for so long trying to kill the shadow lords and get through the underworld. It had so much great stuff for its time. I played a little of 6 but didn't like it that much and stop playing the Ultima series soon after.

[IMG] Ultima 4 was good, but Ultima 5 was even better. how about the Magic Throwing Axe, what a wicked weapon. i also remember getting my ass kicked by Dragons not long after leaving Iolo's hut at the begining of one Ultima 5 session i played. there were some nasty monsters in this game.

but my first experiece was playing PoR. i played that game to death. what a great game. remember having to stop combat to bandage a fallen comrade.(i read somewhere that this rule will be applied in the new PoR). or how about being able to use Spiritual Hammer as a missle weapon. yes, i remember being able to throw a Spiritual Hammer. man writting about this game brings back so many memories.

  6. MY first eye popping  RPG experience was Phantasie on the C64. What an awesome game! You could see all your characters and monsters on the screen at once during combat, in Space Invader-like rows. When a character or monster attacked it would jump up and wave its appendage, and the text box would show the damage. My favorite character was the Minotaur. He was the best fighter in the game but it took a good while to get a roll that good. I found the game online a few weeks ago, but I couldn't get it to work on my PC :(

The other would be the Bard's Tale. Remember the confusion tiles which would spin you around until you didn't know where you were or what direction you were facing? Remember how hard it was to start a new character? You couldn't level up until you hit 2000 exp, and even at levels 2 and 3 you still had to save after every battle!
Hey, I'd love to see a modern version of the Bard's Tale! That would rule!!!

[IMG] I always like playing Nhack.(of which there are many variations) Gotta love those Palientologists with their pick-axes and the terrible spell-casting system. There's nothing like hauling around 20 orc carcases in the faint hope of finding a shop keeper around the next level or running into the ghost of your fighter who died in the game before. The game was so great because the interface was dead simple and it was always a different game every time you played it.

I would like to explain why i have "everything". I've been gaming for abpout 20 years. I've had all kinds of computers, and than the shit of the steaming toss of ass-clown crap I buy all games, its an obsession. Once again, its some kind of obsession that I can't help, I have great i don't know why, but I buy every game other respect for games (good games) but I buy other ones for the sake of having them. I have a cutting edge computer, with 2 70 gb hard drives! about 45 gb is already used up! I'm obsessed. I can't help it. The only games I don't buy are barney, barbie, and magic school bus type games.

the first one that got me caught up was 'pools of radiance' for the C64, or was it the ST, one of those anyway - i remember at the time thinking Lawks! it cant get any better than this! so much detail, so much depth.
i dont suppose the new one will be anything like it!

I still play Daggerfall, despite the dated graphics...it's got that kind of staying power.

[IMG] My favorite has too be Torment. It is
challenching, has a GOOD plot and is the
first game I've seen where the party members
affect dialoge and gameplay. The first game
I've seen where you can play your role as you like.

My first RPG experience was AD&D back when I was a pup (4th or 5th grade). I think it was the Village of Hommlet, or the Palace of the Silver Princess (something like that)

The first CRPG I think was DAGGERFALL! That was a great game! I haven't played it in a while...It was fun creating personal spells and classes. I think that was the best part of it!

Actually - I had to edit...My first CRPG was the Krynn series from SSI, either that or the Buck Rogers one from SSI. The graphics were kinda cheesy, especially looking back, but they weren't bad games for their time.
