What is your opinion about Aerie? A lot of people say they think she is annoying but I don't realy think she is. Not compared to Anomen anyway. I never have finished the romance with her even though I almost always use her in my party.

She is also very useful. She is usualy my only cleiric and I use her as a backup mage. She is the one that knows all of the summoning and protection spells that way it opens up space for the attack and disabeling spells on my main mage or sorcerer. She stays behind the front lines in combat and casts spells and then runs up and heals my fighters when they need it. So overall I think she is one of the most usefull charaters in the game. What do you think about her?

I think she's sweet... She's the only one who is bitching about herself, the others are bitchingat you that's far worse. She's pretty usefull in combat too

Hmm, my first time through the game I kept her in the party. She's pretty useful I guess. I tend to use her more as a mage than a cleric though. She's good at using sequenced spells and shooting spell casters with Melf's Acid Arrow. Only drawback is that she's as weak as a kitten and she'll never shut up about her wings. She's too much of a liability for me. One time we were ambushed by thugs and a thug fighter guy went after her. I had to have her run around avoiding him until I could kill the guy with a flame arrow from my main character. You see how she could be a problem later on like in the Underdark?

I nearly always include Aerie in my party simply because she has both spellcasting and healing abilities. Yes she can get annoying but the skills she brings to the table make it worthwhile. As for combat, equip her with the Girdle of Fortitude and the Mauler's Arm mace so that if ever she needs to engage in melee, her strength will be 18/00 and her constitution will jump to 18. She's still a lousy fighter, but it will keep her alive long enough for a fighter to come to her rescue.

    [IMG] Hi,

Just make sure Aerie always has a stoneskin up or an invisibility potion in her quick slot and she will be ok. I also always give her a contingency that consists of invis and stoneskin and a trigger of 75% hitpoints. Never lost her yet. Don't make a habit of putting her near the frontline. She does well with Crom though :D

Aerie is a very useful character. One reason I like her is because she can put all of those cleric spells in sequencers of one type or another. Simple ones like chant and bless for those unplanned fights, or some of those useful higher level cleric spells in a trigger. She is also a great backup magic user.

If her whining annoys you early on in the game just tell her "gently" that you are not interestd in romancing her. You will get several chances to do this and she won't whine much any more. Or complete the romance and she stops whining then too.

    Cheers,

    WittyNewt

[IMG] She is very useful. I did not find her annoying at all. She is a decent mage and a decent cleric. Keep here to the back of the pack, stone skinned, and slinging/casting and she can contribute to combat.

When I feel like having a weak mage and a weak cleric with little melee fighting skills and low hit points all combined together in one big ball of crud, I put Aerie in my party.

Now, when I want a high-level cleric with awesome fighting skills and high hit points, replace Aerie with Anomen (Archer, ;)). And when I want a high level mage with high hit points and the ability to use short bows, longswords and katanas, I replace Aerie with Nalia.

That's just my half a cent, though. Let's take a look at the math though, shall we? The experience cap is at 2,950,000 points (let's leave ToB and cap removers out of this). Take a look at what Aerie, Anomen, and Nalia will be at that amount of points:

    Aerie
    1.Cleric, Level 14 (1,475,000 points)
A.Without wisdom bonuses, her spellbook will look thusly: Level 1: 6 spells memorized per day; Level 2: 6 spells; Level 3: 6 spells; Level 4: 5 spells; Level 5: 3 spells; Level 6: 2 spells; Level 7: 1 spell.
B.With Wisdom of 16, she will get an extra 2nd level spell each level up.

    2.Mage, Level 13 (1,475,000 points)
A.Without intelligence bonuses, her spellbook will be thus: Level 1: 5 spells memorized per day; Level 2: 5 spells; Level 3: 5 spells; Level 4: 4 spells; Level 5: 4 spells; Level 6: 2 spells.
B.With intelligence of 16, she is able to scribe 11 spells in book per casting level, and is restricted to learning only up to Level 8 spells, impossible with the cap.

    Anomen:
    1.Cleric, Level 20 (2,886,000 points)
A.Without wisdom bonuses, his spellbook will look thus: Level 1: 9 spells memorized per day; Level 2: 9 spells; Level 3: 9 spells; Level 4: 8 spells; Level 5: 7 spells; Level 6: 5 spells; Level 7: 2 spells.
B.With max reachable wisdom of 16 (provided his trial is passed), he will get an extra 2nd level spell each level up.

    2.Fighter, Level 7 (64,000 points)
A.With a strength of 18/53, he gets +2 to hit and +3 to damage.
B.Can wear any armor, shield, and helm in the game, can carry up to 250 lbs of gear, and put two proficiency points into any blunt weapon. In addition, he has the high hit points of a fighter.

    Nalia
    1.Mage, Level 17 (2,946,000 points)
A.Without intelligence bonuses, her spellbook will be thus: Level 1: 5 spells memorized per day; Level 2: 5 spells; Level 3: 5 spells; Level 4: 5 spells; Level 5: 5 spells; Level 6: 3 spells; Level 7: 3 spells; Level 8: 2 spells.
B.With intelligence of 17, she will be able to scribe up to 14 spells in her book per casting level, and learn up to the 8th casting level, quite possible under the cap.

    2.Thief, Level 3 (4,000 points)
A.At this level, her thieving skills are quite useless.
B.However, her hit points will be at a thief's level, rather than a mage's. Also, she will be able to use one-handed swords and short bows, weapons a pure mage would be restricted from using.

In conclusion, it is a matter of choice. At the end of the game, would you rather have a Level 14 cleric/Level 13 mage in your party, or a Level 20 cleric/Level 7 fighter and a Level 17 mage/Level 3 thief in there?

[IMG] Aerie is super handy and infinitely less annoying than Cernd with all his flouncy tree-shagging metaphors (its just a shame that the man rules so much :nolike: ). All three romancable ladies have much emotional baggage, but deal with it in different ways. If anything, Aerie is less repressed about it than the other two; her girly wailing is much more upfront than Jaheira's bashful foot-gazing or Viconia's bitching. Dont get me wrong; I like all three of them, but I dont think Aerie is worthy of the especially bad press she gets.

in a party where you want every member to function rather than stand around doing nothing (too often i see imoen or edwin doing that around athkatla where magic is banned, and after casting all their spells theyre good as dead), aerie will suffice as a cleric and a mage till the end of the game with no major hassle - she can wear both the amulet of power and robe of vecna and this makes her more than useful as an emergency healer - and of coure there is that wonderful spell doom

  13. I found her useful in beginning of SoA, but now I prefer a Cleric and a Mage who can both reach their full potential.
It's been about 3 months since I used Aerie in my party. I'll think about taking her back again.

    Ok Demoneater.

Maby Nalie and Anomen are better at the one main thing they do but Aerie is better overall because she can do them both and she is almost as good in each seperate thing.

I can't belive I just said Anomen was better at something than someone else.

Oh, I agree that Aerie is more versatile, but when I was settling on a good high-powered party that included Jaheira (no way am I getting rid of Jaheira, Irenicus killed her hubby, at least I can help her avenge him!), I narrowed it down to 6 NPC's I wanted. I could only take 5, so I took a look at the numbers, and decided that Aerie had to go.

Anyway, I'm going to look in on that trick with the Robe of Vecna. I didn't know its bonus applied to cleric spells also. :D I'm going to try and put together another party with Aerie in it that works.

Ya, I guess your right about that.

By the way, thanks for not going on about what I said about Anomen the Fool.

Aerie's spellcasting ability surely outweighs Nalia's (not considering Nalia's combating skill when firing Gesen's bow), if I play good, she'd be around me no doubt.

BTW, I want to woo her.:p

I was going to have Aerie in my party (First timer....) but when the possibility of Imoen appeared... bye bye Aerie.

Depending on my mood, I either severely dislike her or say nothing...
