Well the title pretty much says it all.

Is it worth getting or should I avoid it like the plague? The reviews I've read of it haven't exactly been flattering but then I try to pay as little attention to reviews as possible after hearing all those people rant about NWN being a masterpiece.

So is it worth buying or would I be better off saving my hard earned cash for Greyhawk or Lionheart?

    It's worth getting.
The story is linear but with many subquests. Graphics and play is Diablolike, but I find it more interesting than Diablo.
Music is awsome in some parts (my favorite is the Cursed Abbey drums, could listen to it for hours ;) ).
    Movies suck. :(
Game has few unfixed bugs (after you install the latest "hotfix"), but these are not affecting the game critically.
Game is hungry for RAM and load/save times last very long.

All in all, I've really enjoyed it till the last "chapter" which kinda got on my nerves because it lacks of quests and definetly is pure hack&slash. On a scale 1-10, I'd give it 9.
You'll ask why 9 when I've numbered few bad things. The answer is simple - those few bad things are the ONLY bad things in it.

I agree with Extremist, it was very good. The only thing that I didn't like, was that they called the rogue esque class "Survivor", which is practical for the most part. Hmm.... load and save times didn't take that long for me, and I played it on a 766 Mhz 64MB DDR Ram at the time, with a 4600 rpm HD. My motherboard was crap though, oh well, worked fine for me.

[IMG] If you want my opinion, simply don't bother to buy the game. I played a demo and thought that the game was absolutely worthless. I hated it. Terrible graphics(some Scottish dude wearing a kilt and running around like a woman). Really cheesy strory. Bad interaction with Npc's...

As I said I hated it, but that's just my opinion.

The kilt scottish dude change his appearance as soon as you put something else on him.

I agree with Extremist. Very good game, even if relatively little attention was payed to it.

...though I'm starting to think the less attention given a CRPG, the better it turns out.

I've bought Divine Divinity. Seems okay so far although a little slowgoing. I particularly like the non-linear feel of it that allows you to explore vast areas and attempt all different quests. There's nothing worse than starting a game and having to run through the same tedious set of quests every time (NWN take a bow).

On the downside: I seem to only be able to rest in certain places which means that whenever I'm badly wounded or running out of mana I need to spend ages wandering across the vast landscape to a place I can rest; there don't seem to be many people I can sell my items to; some of the early monsters (heavy orcs in particular) are way overpowered for so early in the game.

But it's better than NWN so I consider it money well spent.

You've only started the game and you have mana/sleep problems?

    Tips on resting:
    - abuse the pyramids (you'll get them pretty soon), which means that you should put one on the floor near the bed while another should remain inside your inventory
    - don't miss the "portable bed" in the house north of the Cursed Abbey, you may put that one in your inventory
    - you may make a resting place by yourself anywhere if you have two straw bundles by putting them one over other on the ground to make a hay, but remember that a hay is not movable

One thing, what are you doing outside of the village so soon?! Clear the catacombs and all village quests, then go out. And don't mess the magic mirror/healing stone quest!!!

Why am I outside the town so early? 'Cos I felt likt it!

Seriously, I saw a gate in the wall surrounding the town and wandered out there. I've been pretty much wandering ever since. A game like this with lots of space to roam certainly beats the pants off games like IWD and NWN which are so linear you could do them with your eyes closed.

Thanks for the tip about the portable bed. I went near the cursed abbey once but there were so many skeletons and corpses around I had to make a run for it.

Um, the point is that in the first dungeon you'd get enough experience/levels to safely explore the outside world except that point with raising corpses and orc base with elite orcs.
No matter. You'll survive, hehe... :p

The game was great. And early on, there are many quests, and I took to many of them that I almost forgot my main objectives. The only thing that I really hate about the game was that it took about 60-90 seconds to load or save. And when you are still weak, that is very disappointing.

Has anyone else had annoying problems with the game crashing frequently? It seems to happen pretty much at random - sometimes I'll initiate dialogue with an NPC and it'll crash, another time it won't. Other times a cut scene won't end and the game will just be frozen or I'll be unable to save my game because it says the cut scene hasn't ended properly.

Any idea how I sort this out? I've got the latest patch installed.

I had no crash through whole game. Only slowdowns in the city (although hotfix should solve it, it wasn't so) and überlong load/save times.
Try with updating drivers for everything and make sure you have enough free space on your hard drive for those titanic saves.
