You guys have no idea how long it took me to update this... phew.

    Okay...
Agree: Chrono Trigger, Civilization, Command & Conquer, Commander Keen series, Diablo, Doom, Doom II, Duke Nukem 3D, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Heroes of Might and Magic II, Icewind Dale, Master of Orion II, Metal Gear Solid, Monkey Island (Curse of), Quake II, Settlers II, Starcraft, Starcraft: Brood War, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Tomb Raider, Toonstruck, Unreal Tournament, Warcraft, Warcraft II, Wolfenstein 3D and Worms.

    Against:
Gran Turismo 2 - Isn't as memorable as the origional.
Master of Magic - Slow, too damn hard.
Max Payne 2 - Isn't as memorable as the origional.
MDK 2 - Got to be kidding. Graphics sucked, story was horrible and it was made by Australians!
Might and Magic VI and VII - NPCs have no character. Everyone looks the same. Ugly, ugly, ugly!
Street Fighter Alpha III - Nothing too interesting. The first had more 'wow' factor and there are better 2D fighting games being released now.

@Abom - Sorry about the lack of alphabetical order. whoops.

    Agree: BG2, BG2:ToB, Doom 1/2, Diablo 1/2, GTA:Vice City, Jazz Jackrabit (c'mon. He's a frickin green bunny with tats and a gun.)

Ok. I seriously can't believe that nobody has agreed with either Lords of the Realm or Gotham City Racing 2. I mean, those are some seriously sweet-ass games here. Is it that you didn't like them, or that you just didn't play them?

    Space Invaders Shoot 'em up.
Pros: Arguably the game that put computer games on the map (nobody really played that Pong game as much). Created a whole new form of terminology (over here we still talk about going to the "Spacies parlour" rather than the "video game arcade". Taught us manual dexterity and introduced us to the concept of shooting electronic enemies for fun. Instigated many a heated debate over the two main strategies: a) hide behind the shields before popping out to shoot vs b) blowing away the shields because they got in the way
Cons: At higher levels, it became nigh-on impossible to beat because the aliens went too fast. Graphics a tad blocky. May not run on Windows XP.

I would like to disagree with Diablo for pretty much the same reasons as I disagree with the sequel.

Also, yes, Starcraft and Brood War exist on N64, was close to buying it once. You could play two people on one console and if you had an expansion pack for the N64 you also could play the Brood War expansion.

    Agree:
    BG:TotSC
    Duke Nukem 3D
Also, Duke Nukem is for N64 as well, not only for PC, but the N64 version is much worse.

    Agree:

Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast, Command & Conquer, Diablo, Doom, Doom II, Duke Nukem 3D, Final Fantasy X, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Street Fighter II, Tomb Raider, Unreal Tournament.

    Nominate:

Grand Theft Auto III - PC & PS2, Racing, 3PS, Adventure
Really brought the old school GTA's to life. A real stepping stone in interactive enviroments, as well as freedom of choice. Plus, you get rewarded for being a bad guy. Rob, pillage, loot; it's like being a viking with a semi-automatic.

    Doom III - PC, FPS
Repeat Doom and Doom II. More levels, more player created mods, and a slight graphic upgrade. Plus it fits on floppy disks.

Disagree: Doom Most frustrating game I have ever played. I'd wander around a level after having killed everything trying to work out what the hell to do next and eventually find out I had to do something really obscure like blow up a random piece of dark will with an RPG or something to progress. Always ended up invoking the unlimited ammo cheat because the game was too hard otherwise.

    All PC games.

    Agree with:

    Age of Empires
Oh! for the days when the town center couldn't a make mockery of your champions. It also had chariots, which sadly were not brought back in AoE II.

    Blood II: The Chosen
Caleb scared me more than the enemies. Raging mumbling which could drive a shrink up the walls. Also liked how the game compensated for machines with lower specs.

    Icewind Dale
I guess I should have been more specific in saying the nomination was for both. After all, the original game had all the funnier dialogues.

    New Nominations:

    Commandoes
No lone ranger superheroes. No terribly overwhelming armies. A few ordinary army guys doing their job. Commandoes 3: Destination Berlin is a comparitive pain in the ass.

    Fifa 2000
Now that was a football game I liked. I had played the earlier versions too, but this was the last and it simply rocked.

    Hitman I & II
Not much of a story, but great gameplay. The inability to save every 5 seconds made you really plan out your moves. The better graphics and detail in the sequel made things a lot better. Hitman III: Contracts is too dark as yet. Might have a better opinion of it by the time I finish it, but not yet.

Need For Speed II & V
The series that defines car racing for PC. Spent hours careening along beautiful counrysides. NFS:2 was the first racer which had cops chasing you. And the cars and locales in Porshe Unlimited... :hippy:

Any games mentioned hereinafter within this post are presently not to be considered as recommendations on my part for the list.

When I played Doom for the first time, I had already left behind such games as Wolf3D. And I still think that Wolf3D had better graphics (along with a terrible soundtrack). I'll even say that Prince I looked better than Doom, even if its graphics weren't 3D like Doom. The replayability in that game was higher for me. I later came across Quake I and that had better, if laughable, graphics. It may be that Doom was the first in its genre and was ahead of its time. But not when I played it.
Actually Duke Nukem's graphics were far more horrible than in Doom. Various lizard like monsters in 8-bit, all drooling stupidly for your blood. And this mind you, on a 14 inch screen. But I simply can't knock a game which has chicks flashing. :D :shake:

Are we also going to have NES games like Street Fighter here? Then I guess this list will half filled by such games as Super Mario Brothers and Contra.

And please, stop licking Taluntain's arse with that bolded TAL'S CHOISE -marking.

Oh, it's in the first post... doh. And I've been looking around here for 5 minutes where the hell that was coming from... I didn't think my list would go there (as I didn't write it with that intention). As I mentioned in my post, my list is far from complete.

But anyway, even though those games are my personal picks, pretty much all of them were also critically acclaimed (even if they didn't sell in millions), so you have nothing to worry about if you list them as my choices. They're all great games, pure and simple. But obviously even some great games won't please everyone for one reason or another.

I don't know why everyone orgasms over Half-Life. Sure, it's a decent game, but I don't really think it's the be-all-and-end-all. Then again, I've never played Counterstrike.

There's some plot-holes too. Like how they never explained why a scientist all of a sudden becomes a weapons expert. Even Doom had some explanation for that. And what the hell are those really fast shadow things you fight later in the game? And why oh why is there a ten minute trolly ride every time you start a new game?!

    For:

Planescape: Torment - Probably been said before, but a supberb story that someone has thought about, the player has to get involved too. A one off delight.

Baldur's Gate & Baldur's Gate II - Never quite as great as Torment, the latter has the edge for its characters, the former for its environs.

Daggerfall - Elite for the 90's. Not easy to get hold of, but then many good things aren't. And the best skill system I've used in a game.

CM00/01 - One version of CM3 here, have played it more than any other title, adictive, depth, and you never quite know what will happen.

Morrowind - A bit on the small side, and dialogue requires a little imagination, but a superbly created world to explore.

Colin McCrae 2 - Still looks good after all these years, and still handles as though it wants to entertain. Interesting tracks.

TOCA 2 - Pick of the track racing games, chance to have some very exciting races (especially at full distance).

Giants - The first two sections are absolutely superb. Very imaginative, and tremdous fun.

Ultima IV - The only game that would make me want to buy a console. A PC conversion would be very much welcome (although not going to happen is it).

Thief Gold & Thief II - No haste. Requires thought. Atomospheric. Separate nominations, but they both do the same things so well.

    Against:

Diablo II - I can cope with the looks, aside from perhaps looking too angular outdoors, it's the extremely tedious repetitive gameplay that does it for me.

Also I'm another not in favour of Half-Life, although I'm convinced enough that it is good for its type. So not a negative.

Can we please avoid posting 'double ups' like this? Hitman I and Hitman II are different games - I haven't played EVERY game and that is why I want you to write a mini-review for each game you nominate. PLEASE stay away from quotes like
since this basically tells me "The game is good" and not what parts of the game.

'Licking arse' wasn't my intention. Tal - who is short on time - provided a list of games that I figured he was nominating. I can't throw a game up there without it having some form of 'pro' and since Tal didn't provide me with any I put up "Tal's Choice" because I defer to his judgement. However, the rest of you need to provide a quick review detailing the pros and cons of EACH game you nominate. Again I say: Stop double-upping! I can't read your mind!

Any game that YOU or ANYONE thinks is a damn good game will go on the list - you just have to mention it. Your list doesn't have to be complete, you can add things at will, even change your mind - that's why I have your names next to what you agree with and what you disagree with.

HoW - Heart of Winter I assume. TotL - huh? Tale of the Leper? Tongues on the Lane? I don't know what every letter combination means - I have not played EVERY game. Also, "IWD:TotL, and IWD2" haven't been nominated yet and despite the fact I've PLAYED IWD2 I can't just throw it up there without hearing someone else's pros on the game - whenever you offer a game PLEASE assume I haven't played it.

From now on, if you don't obey the rules your nomination won't be put up. I probably won't even tell you that you haven't obeyed the rules, I'll just ignore what you posted until you DO obey the rules. It's not because I like being a meglomaniac and having others dance to my beat, it's because I want this list to be just and fair and I don't want to type something that somebody didn't mean.

Also people, it's not just about what is good now. Please try to compare with the game at the time of its release. Sure, the graphics might be choppy for todays standards but back then they were the benchmark sometimes.

I'm also taking off my first 'nominations' from my first post and putting them here. To make viewing 'the list' easier.

Baldur's Gate I - PC, Role Playing Game
Using version 2 D&D rules, the game was a masterpiece for its time. Set in the tried and true 'Forgotten Realms' universe. Complete and utter abandon for character creation. Various ways of play. Colourful NPCs. One of the best storylines ever composed. Easy combat system and a perfect mix of real time and turn based gameplay from a beautiful engine. The famous Interplay humour. Beautiful 2D, hand drawn backgrounds. Good voice acting.

Dune 2 – PC, Real Time Strategy
The RTS that started it all. Set in Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune’ universe take the command of the noble Atreides, the insidious Ordos or the evil Harkonnen in your battle for Arrakis and the Spice. Resource gathering, base building, troop combat and the cool voice-overs for production. Doesn’t sound like much but this game is where it all started. A groundbreaker so it deserves to be in the top 100.

Fallout - PC, Role Playing Game
Using the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system of RPG rules providing high levels of character customisation. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where the bombs have scoured both the landscape and the attitude of humanity. Possesses incredible wit and 50s nostalgia. Various solutions to quests. The famous Interplay humour. The ‘talking heads’ method of communication with important NPCs. PIPBOY! Good voice acting.
