[IMG] I just finished playing ToB last night, and... it was epic to say the least. For me, it was always the story that mattered, and not so much finding this or that sword/gem/whatever.

So, seeing my character set out on a desperate yet determinate journey to find her sister and free herself of the evil taint of destiny, fighting her way through battles, always with old friends at her side as well as new ones, finding love, then trying to over come fear and confusion as the taint grew darker, and forced to knowing herself discovering who she was, but also who she wanted to be, and though longing for a life truly her own, she would not back down against evil, and fought through fear and violence until finally she could be cleansed from her taint and live out her own dreams surrounded by the people she loved, that was by far the most vivid, emotionally overwhelming story I ever played. At the end, when I read the bio for each character, it all felt so complete and so... final. (yeah, I know I am being emotional) :p

So, anyway, then I woke up this morning... and the emptiness struck me! What in the nine hells am I going to do now?? I can't play with my charahter anymore, and starting a new game would not be the same. It is over an done with! :(

I guess what I need is a pat on the back and a ton of suggestions of games with as much brains and heart as the BG saga.

You fill up the vacuum with something else. New game, book, hobby...

There are plenty of threads around about good games.

While it's true that the first time is always the best in terms of story, there are reasons besides that to play through the game more than once:

    - NPC's - there are enough NPC's to play through three times without any repeats. Different interactions, personalities, backgrounds, etc.

    - Quests - assuming you didn't follow a walkthrough, you probably missed some quests, and the ones you did might play of differently if you approach them differently

    - PC - including kits, multi-classes, dual-classes, and different races, there are literally hundreds of variations for your PC

Basically, the first time through is about the story. But there are one or two people on these Boards who have played the game through more than once ;) , so the story obviously isn't everything. :)

Depends how much you like powergaming...

If you do like it, like me...pretty soon, after the 5th or 6th time, when you can pretty much recite all the dialogs by rote, you start crunching the numbers to make the most godly character you can...that's when you get sucked into the Sorc. vs. Mage, Cleric vs Druid etc arguments... :p

Try it, its great. BG2 managed to become an addiction for me that way.

I know exactly how you feel. I have myself finally completed the game on the 27th of November, and I also feel that I am missing something. When I replay it, I want to start with Baldurs Gate I (which I haven't played yet. I found BG II first), but can't because I don't have DVD drive on my computer.

If you don't mind venturing into slightly different genres, I could recommend some adventure games. I like "The Longest Journey", for example. It has a gripping, if not to say epic, story, and long dialogues (if you like that. I know that I do.).

YES!! Planescape: Torment. Fallout (at least the first couple) might be good too. My personal favorites were Ultima VII Black Gate and Serpent Isle -- very good plot lines. If you can find them there is a mod that allows you to play in windows.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it use similar engine to BG1? If so, I wouldn't try it because of *so* outdated graphics and AI. :nolike:

The story is great and so is the setting. The graphics although dated compared to newer games, is good.

Yes it uses the old Infinity Engine, but personally it doesn't detract from the game.

If I were to play only one Infinity Engine game I would choose PS:T over SoA and ToB easily.

"The closed mind, if closed long enough, can be opened by nothing short of dynamite."

Planescape: Torment was an incredible story. It ranks as one of the best RPG's of all time.

I'm moving this to the Playground since the focus is really on other games, not ToB.

Fallout 1/Fallout 2 are outstanding, as is Icewind Dale 1 and its expansion, Heart of Winter.

Funny, I have played IWD2 and if the first part is as bad, you could say that trash comes in pairs.
