Ummmm, you're going to get a lot of posts about not including PS:T. I'd suggest you post something about that before you get deluged.

IWD for me for a couple reasons:

    1. a quiet party; too much talking is annoying

    2. straight-up fighting :smash:

"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women!"

Oh, that isn't one of the choices? Well, of the four choices offered I would say BG2.

    My thoughts exactly! Conan rox.

Well, in any case, Ps:T is better than those four games, but a heavily modded BG II is pretty darn good too.

Of those - Baldur's Gate. However, there are at least two other RPGs I would name before BG in any other poll like this (Fallout and PS:T) - so meh...

IWD2 for me. The more flexible character creation options in IWD2 beat the story and NPC variety of BG and BG2 for me.

Yes, this is Dragon's Not Required. Some people, however, might want to pay attention to the forum description which includes this little tidbit:

". . . and for topics encompassing multiple RPG games we cover . . ."

whoa, I SO got deluged with my ignorant non-inclusion of PS:T...but in all honesty i just wanted to see what people thought of the BG and IWD series...no others.
    Big mistake, I guess.
Not only that, but DMC called me out on my naughty misplacement. I think he's going to slap my wrist!
(runs off like a pansy boy into the shadows, screaming)

Gotta be BG. It's the only one of the 4 with that sense of freedom and exploration, which I really missed in BG2. Plus, I think that the game mechanics at low-level are much more entertaining.

Agreed. Which is why I can never understand why people keep going on about the best 40th level builds when that is not actually where the bulk of the game is played. Starting at level 1 is the most fun part of the game.

Totally agree with The Magpie - BG2 totally misses the charm that BG1 had.

Of course, maybe that's just my nostalgia talking - but I still greatly prefer BG1 ro BG2
