    Hallo zusammen! :)
Which of these 2 games do you think is easier?I continue hearing that IWD2 is for an advanced infinity engine game player, but I never thought BG2 was easy and I found IWD2 more doable than BG2.(I've been killed many times in BG2 while I've never been game over in IWD2,both in normal difficulty that is.)
Is it really so hard in IWD2?It's surely more glorious than BG2 istn't it,with so many enemies? :)

It depends on your playing style I guess. IWD2 is much more combat-oriented so if you're more of a hack and slash player, IWD2 may be easier.

IWD2 has this thing going where it put you up against loads of enemies and usually in a bad situation... however, as soon as you learn spells like Fireball or Horrid Wilting the game pretty much becomes a cakewalk (except for a few specific fights which I won't mention here).
Then again, BG2 isn't exactly all that hard either, tho I did have quite some problems at some points here too...

I think I'll go with IWD2 being the easiest here, unless you're playing on HoF that is.

IWD2 is easier because it doesn't have cheating super enemies that BG2 does that are somehow able to become instantly immune to everything the moment they see you.

    BG2 is easier.
I guess about half the players who finish BG2 don't even understand the rules (thac0, AC, saving throws) properly.
If the created character is screwed up it doesn't matter since he's only one of six party members and the NPCs he'll find have fitting stats for the classes.

But in IWD2 you can really get screwed if you don't know the manual and 3E rules and handle your characters just as you like.
You have far more important choices in IWD2, so there are far more things you can do wrong.

For a good player who can read manuals IWD2 is easier, since he'll create and develop a good party and have therefore an easier time.
For roleplaying through the game IWD2 is also easier (at least for experienced characters) since BG2 has many unfair situations where you have to use preknowledge making real roleplaying impossible.

    Yes.

BG2 is easier and I have yet to see cheating super-enemies a lá IWD2. Granted, some of the bosses do have some small cheats like double-triggers and "Tattoos of Power", but that does not hinder gameplay too much. Notice, though, that ToB is another matter, since it is just an expansion with less thought-out mechanics.

But still it's nothing as lame as IWD2, which rips off a lot of BG2, downgrades the AI, removes everything that was fun, and replaces it with pure hack'n'slash.

I disagree with nearly everything wordplay wrote.
Especially the IWD2 AI is far better (enemies won't just keep standing where they are while only the single member outside the fog of war fights your party) and I don't remember cheating enemies in IWD2.
I had a better roleplaying experience playing IWD2 than BG2.

    BG2 is much, much easier.

IWD2 is still a worthwhile game, though. If you're sick of yet another BG1/BG2 or IWD run-through, and you've already played Planescape: Torment, then you should definitely give IWD2 a try.

Huh? All of the big bosses in BG2 manage to throw up every buff known to man the instant you walk in on them.

I'd say that IWD2 requires a bit more strategy to get through combat (e.g. it's pretty hard to pick off enemies one at a time as you easily can in BG2).

BG2 is a bit more complex from a story standpoint, and story related decisions you make can come back to bite you. There are certainly a good handful of battles that are quite tough here too -- unless you know your opponents exact weakness (Kangaax anyone?).

Which do I feel is more enjoyable? I like them both, but I prefer BG2 hands down over IWD2. So much more personality, memorable companions, and just a far more addictive game (for me) than IWD2 ever was.

@ Harbourboy: Not really. Chain Continengy allows them to instantly cast 3 pre-selected spells. It's realistic too, since who would go to a place like (e.g) Planar Sphere without preparation? In contrast, I remember the first dragon in IWD2, the one who uses ripped off graphics of BG2 shadow dragon, and what a pain in the ass it was after a poorly designed level.

For starters, how does a ability called "Teleport without error" and near insta-kill acid-breath -combo sound? No limits to that either, since such silly things do not need spell-slots or other player-restricting limits. ;)

IWD2 is by far the easier.

Why? Because You can make your entire party geared to your strengths and gameplay preferences.

IWD strength and weakness lies in the character creation. I find the 3E rules far more fun, since i feel i create a more unique character then in BG2, but this is easely used to create min/max characters where the importent abilities are maxed out and the unimported are minimized.
But I still find that IWD2 requires more strategy then BG2 and while IWD is more linear its far from mindless hack'n'slash ala Diablo.

BG2 While introducing kits and also relieing on stratigic to win battles, it introduces some very anoying stuff to make it hard, especially in TOB. like tons of enemies who just happends to be very fire resistent to counter fireball (hoorrah for skulltrap) and armies fully equiped in +3 weapons and magic armors.
The up in BG is the great story, with far less linear gameplay the IWD.

But I enjoy both games a lot.
