[IMG] :flaming::flaming: Am I the only one who is more than a little upset with Troy Denning, author of Star by Star? After all, he killed off Anakin, thereby causing Tahiri to sink into a deep depression; he left Jacen to die, causing general sadness; he made the Yuuzhan Vong successfully capture Coruscant, causing all kinds of chaos; and he made Jaina almost go over to the Dark Side. Isn't ANYONE even a little distressed by this?! Am I talking to myself, people?! All of you who are outraged, we must find Troy Denning, and make it as clear as transparisteel to him that he has made his last error, and that it is a fatal one! *sigh* At least Tahiri, Lowbacca, and Jaina survived...

[IMG] Yikes. People have to die sometime.

Now don't flame me. Stick around these boards and you'll find I'm a huge Star Wars fan. But why does everyone get upset when a character dies in the books? I'm not going to get into a whole "The Expanded Universe vs. The Movies" debate but relax, it's just a book. It's a way to go beyond the movies. If you don't like it, you don't have to accept it. Forget you ever read it.

Actually, I'm a bit behind on all these Star Wars books. I'm just now finishing up the Bounty Hunter Trilogy (in time for Jango and Boba Fett in Attack of the Clones.) ;) ;)

And welcome to the boards Gamma. Yeah as our friend below us pointed out, there is a seperate forum for book discussion.

[IMG] This topic could go in the book talk. Don't clutter up the whatnot's, with stuff that does'nt belong.

[IMG] Unfortunately, and nobody seems to know why this is, whenever I read a book or magazine or anything, my mind actually sees it happening even more than the average mind does. I hear the voices, I see the people moving around, etc. It is exactly like watching a movie for me, but without the music. I also become really attached to the coolest characters, just like most people do.
C'mon, admit it. You'd get really angry if you knew over 95% of everything there is to know about Star Wars and this happened. There's also hints that the entire Star Wars series -- not just the New Jedi Order miniseries -- will come to a close due to the fact the the Yuuzhan Vong captured Coruscant. If it would've been Jacen that died and almost any other planet captured, I'd be far happier and I wouldn't want to kill Troy Denning. However, it was Anakin that died and it was Coruscant that was captured! Please, if you value all that is right in the universe and if you are truly a fan of Star Wars, help me carry out my task. Help me kill Troy Denning. Slowly... Painfully... But I must deliver the killing blow, and he must know why he died, and exactly who it was that killed him! I must see the look of fear in his eyes...

And, no, I'm not insane. I'm just angrier than I thought was possible, and I've been pretty angry before. I've slammed a third-grader's head into a wall!

[IMG] I feel your pain. Lets Lure him to a convention and finish him there.
I would even dress up as Jacen, just for the Nemesis part of the killing.

Anyway If I read a lame SW book I do as BigB says. I forget it. Although it is hard from time to time. And the taint the book leaves on the SW universe can never be washed away :sosad:

First off, say that you're posting some bloody spoilers!! I've already read teh book, but I would have certainly been pissed off to find out about the death of a major character like this.

Second, The book was top class in my humble opinion (although Rebel Dream is better). Blaming it all on the author is certainyl not right - he doesn't get to choose the main plotline for the book anyway, but he still adds his own unique flair. If he had killed of Jacen like you suggested then everyone would have still complained/ The whole point of creating such huge disasters, such as the destruction of Ithor and the killing of several of the best characters is to show how bad things are for the New Republic. If it was any other planet that was captured, nobody would have cared much, but this way, it makes people sit up and pay attention, and makes them wonder how things will be better. Star by Star is roughly the middle book of the series, possibly a few after it, so there are still plenty more books to come, so it's not the end for the series.

Finally, I certainly hope that your desire to kill the author is some sick joke, for it is just a book, and there is no reason to get so worked up about a book, which in my opinion was excellent.

[IMG] Hey. That is something I always wondered. Does George Lucas or any of his trusted henchmen sit and "proofread" every piece of litterature that comes out? from cartoons to books?

When should I count on it to be true to the nature of his universe? I know it is geeky, but SW means so much to many of us. :)

Sometimes I have the same "hating" feelings as Gamma. and there is nothing I can do about it. I can't help to feel irritated that some lame auther gets to descide what happens i my favorite universe. :(

I don't agree with killing Troy Denning, maiming him yes, but I haven't read Star Wars books in like 4 years, so I'm kinda behind. Maim him for his crappy, idiot killing of the best characters in all the books he writes. Now, I tend to like having one of the main characters die (It makes me sad, and pulls me deeper into the story) but Denning goes waay too far.

    Proofread? No. Strict guifdelines? yes.

I liked the book, and, well, I don't go all huffy because Anakin croaked. Perhaps because the Solo kids have never been anything special to me. The book was well written, and, well...

If one wants to argue a lot about the book, the lit forum in the Force.net is very full of threads like that.

Only thing that upset me, actually, was that Borsk Fey'lya died. He was such a great character...

On the other hand, if they ever kill off Corran or Kyp, or Wedge, I will be royally pissed off.

*makes Jacen suit for ArchAngel and Anakin suit for self*

I'll get the knives, you get the shotguns.

Hmm... good idea. Wanna join ArchAngel and me while we cut off his hands and bust a cap in his leg?

Indeed. The Chief of State was quite cool. So are all Bothans for that matter.
Corran, Kyp, and Wedge are cool, too.
If they ever kill Tahiri and/or Lowbacca and/or Jaina, though, I'll have the author's head on a pike. And I'll be the one to mount it.

i never read any star wars book but i am a big fan of the movies. it makes me smile to see someone like you to be very loyal to a certain character of sw. but if you put yourself in the shoes of the author (i'm sure he loved anakin too), you might think that the character is already old, not entirely in the physical sense but rather the time exposure. i think star wars have been with us for almost a couple of decades, maybe more. it's time for a change. time for a new breed of hero. probably someone even cooler than anakin.

let's make the movie an example, we all loved anakin in episode 1 despite the fact that we know he became darth vader. and we accepted the fact the he must be persuaded to the dark side, otherwise luke skywalker can never be our new hero and han solo would be just another mercenary if there was no emperor darth sidth to oppose. also, i know that if luke was killed in "return of the jedi", the saga would still go on, and we would actually have princess leia as our jedi knight. don't you think that would be cool.

so forget about killing any author. because i don't think anyobody wanted to kill shakespeare when he killed romeo and juliet.

If you look back to my other post about the new jedi order, you find I am as disgusted as you about not only this book (THough this one in particular did suck) but the entire series

Ummm...Nior I think you have the wrong Anakin. As I understand it, the Anakin being referred to is the youngest son of Han Solo and Princess Leia (sp?).
Also, Shakespeare was expected to kill Romeo and Juliet (along with Macbeth, Hamlet and Julius Caesar) since they were the title characters in his Tragedies.
