I need a good book to read

I am reading Time Line as of right now. Then I will read two books on vikings that my grandmother had bought while she was in Scotland then some tureisty books she wants to read.

My request is this. I need a good fiction book to read. I am willing to try any thing new. Any thing that you can think of please do tell. If you have ever read any of Michael Chirchtons books you have a grasp of what I like. I havent read all of his so anything of his you think I should read please do post it here.

 

The Ender books by Orson Scott Card are really good.

 

Recently I read Shogun by James Clavell. That was an awesome book. Tom Clancy books are also very good (not the more recent Net Force rubbish though) - Books such as The Sum of All Fears and Executive Orders are great.

 

Michael Crichton, eh? Well obviously you've read Jurassic Park. If you haven't, then read it. It's probably his best book and easily better than the movie (not that I'm saying it sucked). The Terminal Man and Congo by him are worth a read as well. If you like crime stories, The Rising Sun is a good read. And Disclosure if you want something with cyberspace in it.

For other writers like him, you might want to read the Hyperion and Endymion (in that order) series by Dan Simmons. They share a lot, though Hyperion and Endymion are set in the future, not present. Most of the time they're pretty low-tech, though.

 

1. Shannara series (Trilogy, Heritage, First King, Voyage of the Jerle Shannara)

2. Dean Koontz novels (especially 'Cold Fire' and 'Watchers')

3. Wheel of Time series (if you haven't read it already)

 

Non-Fantasy fiction ... try Tom Clancy or Steven King. I'm a big fan of King's "Gunslinger" series (starting with "The Black Tower" (or maybe its dark tower)) ... that's a dark fantasy story that will captivate you.

I also recently read the Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell....knowing you, I think you'll love it. First book in this trilogy is "The Winter King"

 

Is that about Arthur? I think I read it, but never got my hands on the other two.

 

'Doomsday Book' by Connie Willis is one of the best books ever written. Another very good one is 'To Say Nothing of the Dog' by the same author. Both are speculative fiction about time travel to earth's past, and are mystery oriented. Very, very good.

 

I'd definitely recommend the Chronicles of The Raven for a good, action-packed read. The first books of the Trilogy's called 'Dawnthief' (yes, I know I've already got a topic open on this but as no-one seems to have read the books, I thought I might plug them again!)

what happens in Tom Clancy's executive orders (I love his rainbow 6 book I've read it 4 times and its over 900 pages long )

 

Dragonrider....a good Chrichton book is The Andromeda Strain. The movie isn't bad either, if you can get past the fact it was made in the very early '70's, and has nowhere near as much action as more modern films. This book was THE reason all the Apollo astronauts had to go into quarantine after their moon landings (it was written a year before Apollo 11 took off).

 

I've seen the movie. I didnt know it was related to M.C. I'll pick that up as soon as I get to a book store.

 

Reality Dysfunction by Peter F. Hamilton

 

One of the best books I think ever written is Garth Nix's Shade's Children. I don't feel like typing so... Peace.
