Im not asking for favorite characters. I wanna know what kinda party everyone likes to have... I go with the 3 mages 3 attackers method. But next time im gunna go with a 3 attackers 1 archer (good archer) and 2 mages. I have noticed alot of people like to use 4 mages and 2 attackers... So i just wanna know whats more fun.

Four fighter classes and two that can cast magic.

    Fighter
    Fighter
    Fighter
    Fighter/Cleric or Fighter/Druid
    Mage/Cleric
    Mage/Thief

That's my perfect party in my adventure.

    Syl..

[IMG] -fighter-mage of some sort, this game makes this class very good, but usefull in any, even if only as a backup to other fighters or mages in different scenarios
-fighter-in this game, I like berzerkers(no real drawbacks, usefull special ability), any party needs one straight forward melee specialist
-ranger-when they can reach higher levels, good stealth, usefull for ranged attacks and with two handed weapons, backup clerical spells
-fighter-druid-I like multi class here because can reach good levels in both classes, prefer over fighter-cleric because can use scmitars, nice to have a front line fighter who can cast spells while wearing full plate
-mage-cleric-also like this multi class, not great in either class, but makes up for it in sheer spell number, good backup to other spell casters
-thief dual mage-for spellcasting parties, this is the best option, mage can still cast high level spells and be used as an adequate theif(at least for traps, locks, and stealth) and can use short bow
    -
    -
    have:
    4 fighters
    3 mages
    1 cleric
    1 1/2 druid
    1 thief
    -
    -
    -
I'll catch slack for this, but I don't like to waste space with straight theif or cleric/druid classes, I find them more usefull multi/dual classed, and as can be seen, I like multiple spell casters and fighters, the more the merrier, having three mages helps a lot

I know no one has mentioned names but I hafta! Although everyone adds/drops party members throughout BG2 here is what I found that is best for me.

    1) True Fighter or Monk to deal & take 'toe to toe' damage. Scripted AI to attack aggressively.
    2) Ranger (Minsc) for 'air attack', few healing spells or assist on the frontline. Scouting. Scripted AI to mainly defend spellcasters.
    3) Mage/Thief (Imoen) for traps, spellcasting, thieving skills, air attack. Varying AI script.
    4) True Cleric (Viconia) all lvl cleric spells. Focusing on protection spells/healing spells 'galore'. Air attack. Scripted AI to heal party members/defensive spells.
    5) Mage/Thief (Nalia) main spellcaster with any beneficial rings/robes to enhance/add spells or spell casting, etc. Air attack. Scripted to offensively cast.
    6) Ranger (Valygar)for 'air attack', few healing spells or assist on the frontline. Scripted AI to mainly defend spellcasters.

I would've liked to trade my 2 Mage/Thieves in BG2 for a True Thief and a True Mage that had 18's in their respective class abilities. Not Yoshimo or Edwin. Can't trust em' and Yoshimo is a Kit Class. Edwin's an ass. Besides he did Minsc & Dynahir WRONG in BG1!

I don't have a specific party make-up that I like, because it tends to vary from game to game (especially in those like BGII, where you don't get to choose each character's class). However, I always put as many fighters in my party as I can fit. Even characters who fill other roles (mages, thieves, clerics) will often have a warrior class of some sort dual- or multi-classed in with them.

The reason I like this is that, in addition to each character fulfilling his particular role in the party, I don't tolerate weaklings who need a babysitter to keep them alive. Thus, if my mage finds himself in battle, he darn well better be able to buff up and whip out a sword if he wants to survive in my group!

This is not to say that I play in a "bum-rush" style of party, or that my characters don't support one another in battle. I use choke points, fall-back tactics (so injured party members can heal up, while others close in ranks to keep monsters from following), and such. As well, many of my party members use missile weapons, one or two might even use them exclusively. The simple fact of the matter is, should the time come, every member of my team must be able to protect himself, should immediate aid not be at hand.

    :)

I usually have 9 "slots" to fill with 6 characters. So some are multi- or dual-classed:

    3 Wizards (minimum 2)
    2 Warriors (minimum 1)
    3 Priests (minimum 2)
    1 Rogue (minimum 1)

This may vary as long as I don't get below the minimum with any class.

Question for the Wretched, I used the 'everyone can look after themselves' technique in IWD but I don't find it works so well in BG2 because you cannot change armour in combat. Defending yourself is one thing, defending yourself in your dressing gown is another. Or do you use a lot of Stoneskin/protect from weapons type spells?

    Paladin
    Cleric/mage
    Theif/mage
    Bard

  11. Wingfoot Guest

    Fighter
    Fighter
    Fighter/Cleric
    Cleric or Druid
    Mage
    Fighter/Thief or a Mage/Thief

i like having 2 priest types for healing spells of course.
2 mages can come in handy, but i really only like to use one.
gotta have a thief, but not a pure thief, for i find pure thieves pretty useless when it comes to fighting.

I have a Paladin (Main Character)
    Minsc (Ranger)
Jaheira (Fighter Druid - Although she's getting annoying, so I may drop her any day)
Yoshimo (Bounty Hunter - this is my interchangeable slot for the NPC du jour)
    Aerie (Mage/Cleric)
    Conjurer

    Barbarian (Ragnarok) = me
    Paladin (Keldorn)
    Stalker (Valygar)
    Thief/Illusionist (Jan)
    Thief/Mage (Nalia)
    Mage/Cleric (Aerie)

But i'm not certain with Valygar, although he is VERY cool with Celestial Fury and his own katana...Maybe i'll change him back for Minsc...'cause, well, ehh...Minsc is Minsc. And who doesn't love Boo?

    Here's what I've got.

1 Fighter (Minsc) I know he's a ranger, but stick two swords and apply beatings.
1 Paladin (Keldorn) Average, solid fighter, with O.k> special abilities.
1 Fighter/Thief (Yoshimo) Mostly thief but can go toe-to-toe with two katanas.
1 Fighter/Druid (Jahiera) Healer and Fighter all-in-one. What could be better?
1 Mage (Me) I like Fireball. A Lot.
1 Mage/Cleric (Aerie) Lots of spells. Good healer and offensive magic-user later.

I like a party built like this:

    Straight Fighter
    I use a berserker
    Special Fighter (Paladin or Ranger)
    I use an Inquisitor
    Multi Cleric (Fighter or Ranger/Cleric)
    I use a Ranger/Cleric for Druid spells
Multi or Dual Thief (Whatever with a thief)
    I use a dual Thief/Mage
    Archer
    Obviously, I use an Archer
    Multi Cleric/Mage
I like this because it gives you some of each spell. My other mage is primary for higher level mage spells. This guy is a backup.

Let me know what you think.

    Illusionist
    Fighter/Thief

i tend to have Fighter heavy parties, i tend to forget spells if i have spell casters. I usually end up with

3 Warriors (usally 2 Fighters and a Ranger)
    Fighter/Druid (just for the healing)
    Cleric/Mage
    Thief or Thief/Mage

it really all depends on how many spells i'll think i'll need with the last choice.

Depends on. Actually I have been very happy with the following line-up:

    2 Melee-fighters
2 Missile weapon fighters (preferably with guard function)
    2 Support Characters (thief/ spellcaster)

Cuts through every enemy group like butter. I use the magic and spellcasting to eliminate the strongest enemies first.
