Thief & Sword + Bards Q

Discussion in 'BG2: Shadows of Amn (Classic)' started by ayecapitan, Apr 30, 2001.

    1. Why does my thief have 1 attack/round even with a weapon with SF of 0? Is it a bug or thieves can have no more?

    2. What does generic bard's and blade's song do?

1: SF has nothing to do with attacks per round. SF has to do with initiative. The SF of a weapon helps to determine your priority in getting in your 1 attack per round.

2: Generic bard songs tend to work like a priest's chant ability, increasing the fighting abilities of comrades, thac0, saves, whatever...

They can IIRC, if you wait long enough (though I´m not sure for I haven´t played a pure thief for a while). However, give him Belm, light crossbow of speed or the bow of the Tuigan - these weapons will give him an extra attack. That would work too.

I still haven't found Belm and I'm already level 19 (Max) and at Suldannesselar.
Where is it? Not that I need it, but maybe for the next time through...

Belm is near the druid Grove. The only civilised building in the area. look carefuly near the stable where the cow is and you will be able to find the weapon.

Yeah that tower which has no apparent purpose except to have a +2 scimitar of extra attacks in a heap of hay and a cow as guardian. I though I'd get a good fight in there but no...

    but there is!
You have to do the Trademeet Genie quest for this fight, there at the tents just outside of Trademeet on the Trademeet area.

The tower comes to a use when you do Dennis´ gong quest and it is no longer empty then ... just cast limited wish/ unique wish with wis-18 (take a potion if needed) and ask for an adventure like you´ve never experienced before and go through he bridge district .... good fun ;)

    - Thieves do not get more attacks/round.

    - Haste gives one extra attack/round.
    - Dual wielding weapons gives you one attack/round with the off-hand.
    - Improved Haste doubles number of attacks.
    - Several weapons give an extra attack per round.

    - To start the Limited Wish (the "Gong" quest) quest you need 10 or higher Wisdom.

Just today asked where the gong would be and was directed that way, thought it would be in the troll mound though... First time I try this quest, couldn't do it before because I always killed off the mercenaries in the bridge district :D

Ehm, the fight you have there when you do the quest for the Djinni's (easy fight) is in the building near the tower, not IN the tower with the scimitar.

i was just wonderin' why thieves don't have more attacks..i mean they use daggers, which are light weapons, and they're more dextrous than fighters so shouldn't they have more attacks?

I'm not quite sure about some of the above posts but my Thief eventually always has more than one attack. However the trick is to dual class your Thief if you are human (multi class your Thief otherwise). Start off as a Fighter and pour points into a weapon and then after Imoen sets you free in Irenicuses dungeon... Dual your Fighter over to a Thief. Then throughout the course of the game add points to whatever weapon you wish (don't overlap your initial Fighter weapon proficiencies) and you should be able to get 2 attacks with a single weapon, 3 with dual weapons and 4 with Belm in your off hand.

Of course you already know the benefits of dualing... percentile Strength and possibly Grand Mastery in Bows or a Sword, massive Hit Points, better THAC0 and the like. One of my Fighter/Thieves has 5 slots in Short Bows and gets 4 to 5 attacks depending on which bow he uses. A standard magic bow or the +1 Tungian bow that gives an extra attack.

Interestingly enough you can Dual Class your Thief and still get to the 23rd level cap. The 7th lvl Fighter/23rd lvl Thief(89,ooo for Fighter/2,86o,ooo for Thief). BG2 likes Thieves! Yep even the most powerful Bows -my opinion- are Short Bows. The Tungian +1 Attack Bow, the Bow of Gessen and Tasheron's Bow, just made for Thieves.
