[IMG] Why can't you enjoy the game otherwise? Does it hurt to leave that CD in the drive?

Here's a previously closed topic on this subject: http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002461.html

And since that sort of crack isn't posted anywhere on Sorcerers, you can be sure there's a reason for it. If I approved of them, I'd have them up.

Probably because not everyone's CD drive agrees with the BG CDs. You expect someone to buy a new one just to play one game, when they have a LEGAL method of fixing it at their disposal?

    Hooray for logic!

What's that supposed to mean? "Not everyone's CD drive agrees with the BG CDs."
If your drive wouldn't "agree" with it, how would you install the game off it?

Heh, the second comment is even better. Calling CD cracks legal! Next thing we know you'll be calling ISOs and warez perfectly legal, just cheaper than what those bastards in stores charge you for the games.

[IMG] Captain Spud, did it ever occur to you that copy protection is there for a reason? Or do you think it's put there just so it can be removed by the likes of you as soon as possible? Not that I give a damn about it, I think it's a stupid solution (if we can even call it that), but that's how it is.
Cracking a game is just as legal as breaking an encription for let's say one of the coded sat channels. In other words, illegal.

You can't run around busting street lights because you don't like the colours they show. So neither can you remove copy protection from a game. Funny thing is, most people who want cracks for this aren't people who actually buy the games, but much more often people who have yet to buy a game legally. What a coincidence...

Any lawyers here? Someone to tell these smartasses about how "legal" cracks are? Bleh, nah, don't bother. Munchkins know better.

edit> since I'm a Kobold aider, and I'm aiding (well sort of) this guy, that does mean he's a Kobolt?

Vicsun, on these pages there is a thing called "Idiot of the week" plaque. And there are two persons who deserved it in the past since I came on this place - one was me, of course.

However, there are a bunch of concurrents here, I don't know to whom I should pass it this week. Any suggestions? ;)

Ok I could be wrong about the US of A but in the UK when you buy a game you actually buy the license for that game, the cds are just the method to use that game, also you are legally entitled to make a back up of your product with the idea being you use the back up and keep the original safe i.e free from scratches, little brothers flash floods bombs etc, so if you wanted to back up yor product onto your harddrive and run it from there it is perfectly reasonable to make use of a patch/crack.

Of course most people do not do this and use it responsibly and I strongly approve of not having such links on the site but if used as described thjey would be legal. Of course use them without owning the original license and it is theft.

    Ok mike

    Hmm, noone approves cracks here.
The point was that sometimes BG (1 or 2 can't remember) gets a bug and searches for CD that don't exist (!?), and that bug probably can be overridden with CD checker crack (I only suppose that, because that thing never occured to me). That's why these links were allowed. Not for abuse!

Anyway, the problem is probably solved so Tal can delete that stuff now, and if someone gets on the bug again, well, there's mail.

And one thing more, I also believe unofficial patches are illegal, but if they really fix the game (never used any of those though) I can't spit on them. BI is one who should get concerned about it. Bugs, bugs, everywhere.
