Do you think Flame Tongue is any good and why or why not? Also what swords would you give Haer'Dalis?

Flame Tongue's enchantment is IIRC +4 (even though it gives only +1 to THAC0), so it can hit mostly anything that isn't protected by Improved Mantle or Prot from Magic Weapons (I don't think anyone uses Absolute Immunity in SOA).

As for Haer'Dalis, I'd just make him dual-wield his 2 swords. He's pretty good with them, and they have some fun effects. Later on you can make him use other weapons, depending on which proficiencies you give him. Swords seem to be best, but that's mainly because I felt any other weapon is out of character for him.

I'd give Haer swords, too. Don't forget to pick Kundane in Planar prison (+1 attack).

For the primary sword, Daystar (with undead)
and\or blade of the Roses (good damage). Flame Tongue with Demons and the like.

IIRC?? What does that mean? I read that Daystar is really only +2, not +4...

Daystar is Ok with undead because of extra damage. Most undead do not need +4 weapon, so it would work.

FlameTongue is +4, sure, but Haer's got a lousy thac0, and this sword's thac0 bonus is only +1. So I'd use it only on the creatures that require +4 weapons.

I don't like Blade of Roses much. It has no special ability to speak of (increase charisma? not exactly useful in combat). Daystar is excellent against Undead though, and performs almost as well as Blade of Roses against everyone else.

@Isshy: Daystar's enchantment is only +2, so it's ineffective against some high-level undead. However, the +4 to THAC0 does apply againt all undead that it can hit, and that's a pretty good boost. The extra damage is a real kicker.

Well, the good thing about the blade of roses is that it is a +3 weapon - and you might not have many such weapons by the time you get to the underdark, when you might need some...

I found the Blade of Roses long after I had left the underdark. I was bored and scrolled through a storekeepers inventory when I was like "What the? Hey I've been looking for that blade!"

Blade of Roses + Nymph Cloak + Ring of Human Influance can get you some pretty nice low prices in shops throughout the game. Not a big deal if you have a thief or bard and are willing to steal, but if you are roleplaying a Paladin, it might be worth it.

I like giving him Halberds. I don't want HD getting close to bad guys.

Flametongue is +4? I thoguht it was +1 and hence I sold it in favor of a +2 sword instead...

Flametongue's highest bonus is a +4 (I think it's vs undead or cold based bad guys), and therefore strikes things that can only be hit by +4 enchantment or greater.

It's a tiny bug, is all.

Ya...I decided on Arbane's and the Dak'kon Zerth's with Daystar in reserve. He is using Melf's Meteors and Harp of Pandemonium mostly. Also have the spider fugurine and wand of cloudkill on him. The harp is awesome

Spider Figurine is good. Kittix is more powerful than she looks. And the Harp is indeed amazing!

Melf's Minute Meteors is always a bit problematic for me because its real power is in the hands of someone with good THAC0, and HD doesn't qualify in this regard.

@Isshy: does Haer use Melf's minute meteors with Arbane in off-hand ? :)

Kulyok...When a mage casts Melf's Meteors he/she cant use/swap/change his weapons/ammo until the meteors are all gone...which can be annoying . (edited incorrect information here) . Im using Arbanes for the immunity to hold and the haste and I have it in the main weapons slot. Dak'kons is in the offhand. (Edited incorrect info here). BUT the haste is still available although the immunity to hold icon disappears...i guess you lose that when you cast the meteors. Maybe I should go with flame arrow, lightning bolt, Magic missile etc. so I keep the free action. I think Haer'Dalis needs to use ranged atacks in my party...he is support. It's really the harp that makes me keep him though...I say again, the harp is awesome. It throws many enemies far away AND confuses them 3 times a day! Gives the party lots of time/space to do their thing. I keep him close to my mage and he has saved her more than once.

Ziad...I dont think I've ever seen Melf's Meteors miss a target...it is +5 and I think it also has an area of attack because it will burn on the floor/walls etc. Am I missing something?

I think Melf Meteo is ranged weapon, therefor Dex matters (he got 17 dex, right?). But he's too busy with other stuffs anyway.

And Isshy, your offhand weapon will be considered ranged weapon too.
