These harps are terrible! They don't work on anybody serious at all. Has anyone had any success using any of the harps against a heavy or are they destined to hold and confuse goblins and the like? I'm just going to add them to my collection of travel souvenirs when i get back to my reposessed home in the docks district. Right next to yoshimo's heart, edwin's amulet, and anomen's shield.

What about softening enemies up with Greater Malison and then using a harp, that might help. That's only lvl 4, a bard can handle that.

You can't use Edwin's Amulet through legit means, quite simply it's EDWIN'S amulet :D So keep your paws off. :p

"Use" is a better way to say it ;)

Being a right bastich that he is, eddy got on the wrong end of my sword not long ago. Having no +2 polaroid to commemorate the moment, i preserved his memory by scooping his little trinket from his decapitated head. Yoshimo's heart and anomen's shield (if i ever play the game again, i will be sure to remove anomen of his shield through these means again) were relieved of them in similar fashion. I'm rather sure that this is legitimate. I have since added Jaheira's lock of hair (Liked her enough but she just couldn't wait to die) to this macabre collection of souvenirs. Unfortunately their was nothing left of viconia after she was dispatched by that cowled wizard in the docks district. At the very least, we are currently squatting in his former home, thus her valiant efforts on that day as a decoy allow us to rest, free of charge, and park our belongings in this wonderful three level mansion. We call our mansion "The Viconia Lodge" and offer bed and breakfast whenever we're in town. Now i know where all my magic license fees went. Oh well, 5000 well spent.

Sure, the harps can be useful, I found myself using the harp that cause confusion more than once, worked really great against that group that kept the Celestial Fury :D

Take Yoshimo's heart to a Temple of Illmater. Then it's not so useless....

    [IMG] Harps suck? Sure...

Ever heard of Methild's Harp? You know the one that can three times a day dispel hold-like effects on a single target? No?
So, that's first sucking harp... of course.

Harp of Discord? Yeah, yeah, it sux too, it confuses only enemies... If it would get your whole party confused it'll rock...

What will you say next? That horns suck too. And that most sucking horn is Horn of Silence...

Pal, you obviously never played as bard, nor ever had Haer'Dalis in the party.

I've never really used them. Then again, I've never really had a bard in my party. Maybe it's time to try out Haer'Dalis.... Where do you find Methild's Harp?

Extremist is very right, the harps are amazing.

The one that lifts hold like effects is nifty (very nifty agains mind flayers), but the harp of discord is just incredible, use it on a pack of Rakshasas that are normally resistant to spells and watch them cut each other down! Knock a dragon backwards, or confuse Kangaax - fun stuff.

Tiamat, Melithid's harp is in the Illithid lair in the underdark.

[IMG] Methild's Harp, is that one of those "crack in the wall" items you search for? I think I've found it before, but forgot to get it this past time through.

I hate confusing enemies. They run all over, I lose track of them, and then I either have to hunt them down or they regain their senses and sneak attack me later.

But that anti-hold harp, that one is good.

[IMG] I have this mental image every time i use one of those harps of my bard softly strumming away while blood is being spattered on minsc and valygar from all the monsters that are clambering to get at my bard. Why? Because the harps are useless. I may as well make a goddammed bow out of them. In fact, my main harp doles out +4 to hit and -4 to AC anyway (gotta like them skalds), so it's still the best bang for yer buck. So for comments about the harps "rocking", i will say this: the ones i've found don't work against anything major and to structure my entire attack around them is a waste of my time. Thus far i have found the harp of discord (experts agree that one out of five lizardmen will actually be affected by this harp!) and the harp of ahhhh idunno, holding i guess, which I reckon can barely hold strings let alone humanoids. It certainly doesn't hold tongues, extremist.

  15. You know, it's not neccessary for a bard in your party to use the harps. Keldorn can also use them, for some strange reason.

I've just tested that (I got myself the Harp of Discord, Methild's Harp, Azlaer's Harp, and the Harp of Pandemonium - those are the ones I could think of). Keldorn managed to use Methild's Harp and the Harp of Discord, but not the other two. Distinctly odd....

Why does it have to be harps in this game anyway. Can't they make magic bagpipes? Heck you wouldn't even *have* to enchant them in order to cause horror.

That may be so, what with that earlier punkish portrait of him :D
