    [​IMG] Some of you might remember this from a year and half ago or so, and the situation now is pretty much the same.

    Sorcerer's Place and all our hosted sites have grown and expanded considerably since then, and the recent server CPU upgrade alone wasn't enough. We need more RAM, badly. I've done all I could in terms of optimization, but overall it doesn't mean much - we still get occasional blackouts, slowdowns, and even complete server shutdowns because the load is simply too high for the server to handle over a prolonged period of time.

    So, again, I'm putting out a call for donations. Money collected here will benefit everyone, as it will directly improve accessibility and performance of SP and our hosted sites. So, if you can, please donate for the cause. The memory upgrade consists of a set-up fee ($75) and $30 every month after that. That makes it about $435 for the first year. I hope we can raise this amount in one go and then forget about it for a year. This money will be used strictly for upgrading the server with another gigabyte of RAM.

    Thanks in advance to all who decide to help out!

    (I'll also post calls for donations at some of the other larger hosted sites, and those contributions will also be listed here.)

    Hmm... You know, Tal, I have a few friends who dabble in computer parts, I might be able to find some RAM sticks. Which type of memory is it? I could try to get a few of these, would this count as a donation?

    No, unfortunately I can't put my own parts in the server. I have to pay the prices the server provider sets and buy it from them. That's how it works.

    You really caught me at a bad time for this. I might have done it a few weeks ago but now it's too late for me to attempt to donate anything. In any case I hope you'll be a able to moblize enough donations to get the upgrade done as soon as possible.

    Well...As I said in #sorcerers, my fiance and I are dirt poor. For some reason, planning a wedding takes a lot of money *now* instead of 6 months from now. :rolleyes:

    But I will be renewing my SPS account during the month of Feburary, and with that, I'll chip in a little extra for this upgrade.

    BTW, can you tell us what the server is running Tal? (i.e. CPU brand/model, and current RAM amount...and any other relavent hardware.) :thumb: :rolling:

    It unfortunatly falls during a very bad time. Xmas is costly, it's aftermath never too pleasent, and I'm not overjoyed to eat ramen noodles once again till february. :sick:

    Maybe then I can spare some change for a SPS account and for the upgrade.

    [​IMG] Kitrax, the CPU is Intel Pentium 4, 2.6 GHz, and there's 1GB of RAM currently. In desktop terms it isn't much, but it's decent for a server.

    If you're paying $435 per year for the what's running SP currently, I wonder what a dual Xeon setup would cost you! :eek:

    But just imagin, if you will, what SP could do if it was running on a server that had dual Xeon 3.6 GHz CPUs with 16GB of DDR2 RAM on this bad sucker! :money: :rolling:

    How soon will you be needing those RAM sticks? Because I'll have to wait till Feburary. Since I don't have the money for more than a couple of bucks, which is even less given the cost for the bank transfer, so if I were to make a donation that "mattered" I'd have to wait till Feb too.
