[IMG] I've no problem with the game being set in the world of Greyhawk, but thr Realms are more popular from what I last heard and to me, a lot more fun :) .

Based on the fact that Mordenkainen is far cooler than Elminster and would kick his ass in all but munchkinism, I want more Greyhawk games ;) :p

Khelben: Perhaps, but FR also has Drizzt, therefore Greyhawk wins by default :D

Greyhawk is by far the cooler setting. The Realms are uber-high level. If you die, it's okay, because that passing farmer has 17 levels of cleric and will just resurrect you.

Greyhawk doesn't have the pervasive munchkinism that exists in the Realms. Boccob is a far more acceptable god of magic than Mystra, Drizzt and the Chosen are nowhere to be found.

I love that many of the spells in the previous Realms games were Greyhawk spells. Except for Khelben's Warding Whip, any spell with a name attached was developed by a Greyhawk wizard (Mordenkainen, Melf, Bigby, et cetera).

I just will find it refreshing to play in a game where there isn't a lich in every back room. (seriously, how many were there in Amn alone, hiding in warehouses and behind paintings? I think there were more in that one city, supposedly very restrictive on magic, than in most of Greyhawk)

I myself am glad that there is going to be new blood to spill, wounds to heal, and spells to cast. Sorry, I have never been keen to thieving. If this GreyHawk game does well and is fun then I benefit from it.
I still would like to continue any thing Forgotten Realms, why limit myself to one world.
I am looking forward to GreyHawk, but I still want my Fogotten Realms.
Ohh yeah, as for Mystra and Her chosen, they are most definitely there (Eliminster, Blackstaff)some just don't know it.
Kind of like Abdel and the deal with his Father.

Greyhawk. The Forgotten Realms are nice and all, and a lot of work has been done in developing that world, but Greyhawk is much more visceral and gritty from what I've read and remember of it.

This the first I've heard of this... Is this a new CRPG set in Greyhawk? Because that would be very, very cool.

I do like the FR, but since TOB b****rdised the BG story I went off the idea of games set in it a little.

Yeah, I always thought it was funny about how all the spells came from Greyhawk, what happened? Some adventurers raid the Greyhawk world and steal loads of scrolls? Or did those wizards come along and hand them over?

Troika is making Greyhawk:The Temple Of Elemental Evil for release this summer. Tim Cain (of Fallout fame) is the lead designer, and they're remaking the classic module under 3E rules. Should be a lot of fun; 3D avatars, pre-rendered backgrounds, turn based..
As for the spells, many of the spells were invented prior to the Forgotten Realms being made, back in the TSR days when Greyhawk was the main campaign setting. The names are the names of characters played by the game developers (Otiluke, Mordenkainen, Melf etc. Melf is actually a character name derived from the 1st Edition Male Elf character.. a Melf). I don't know what the "official lore" is on the matter of Greyhawk spells showing up in the FR though.

@Gaius -- I knew that many of those characters (indeed the setting itself) were from Gygax's own campaign, but wasn't aware of their roles (I'd imagined them more as NPCs, but that's probably just because I know Elminster was developed as such, the quintessential DM's deus ex machina). I think some of them actually predate 1st edition, though I'm not sure. Greyhawk as a world does, I'm [escape adjective]reasonably[/escape adjective] sure of that.

They may very well pre-date 1st Edition, but I don't know for certain. Chances are, the players brought at least a few of the character concepts from somewhere else.
But they weren't NPCs, they were player characters.
