No, a Bard can have ¨thieving¨ ability (Open lock, Disarm trap/ pick pocket) and if ye don't love Bard (who doesn't love bard anyway?) Wizard/Sorcerers can cast the second level spell knock who open locked door/chest/whatever and Cleric have the find trap spell. Disarming trap cannot be done without the proper skills though, but anyway trap are very few and distant from each other.

Apparently there were some instant-death traps in the original module, but they were taken out as it doesn't have the same effect in a game -they are merely an annoyance and most people just re-load anyway. Also they wanted people to be able to complete the game with any party (or just solo) so it was designed not to need any character specifically.

The wizard usually has a lot of skill points as well, so put them into lock-picking if you like.

Disarm is useless as no effects are permanent and you get more xp if you get hit by the trap anyway.

I like having a rogue in the party. One of the main reasons is that I've found that I can steal gems back from the Jeweler in Hommlet after I sell them to him.

(Elf Rogue with 20 dex and maxed sleight of hand, Acrobatic feat, Skill Focus: Pick Pockets)

It's also very useful to cast Cat's Grace on him, and wait for 4th level or more before you try it.

I used it to finance making quite a few magic items...
