I have looked everywhere but the only place I have found masterwork items is from Otis in Nulb and since I had him join my party then died :( <note to self Don't get him killed next time> I was wondering where else I could get them from or else fails how to make a normal item masterworked
so I can start to use Craft Magic Arms and Armour on it.

This may be a glitch, but normal magic items count as masterwork for the purposes of creating Magic Arms and Armour

Install the circle of eight patch and you will be able to buy masterwork items from the smith in Hommlet

Thanks I know about the magic item counting as masterworked for crafting purposes, I just want to find normal masterworks for some weapons that I havent found any of them that are magical i.e. scimitars or other weapons not commanly used.

Also can any one give me a list of exactly what all crafting does and how to get some of the bigger options?

For example the Frost is +1d6 cold damage the +1,+2,+3 is standard but the others like [un]holy and other options

The options I have worked out are the flaming, frost and shock with are +1d6 elemtental damage but i dont know the others.

    Thanks in advance

You're going to have to rely on the Circle of Eight patch, I'm afraid. Unless you only like swords and bows, you'll be hard-pressed to find masterwork or magical versions of your favorite weapons. For example - I can't prove it (without physically opening the data files), but I have never found a masterwork or magical version of an exotic weapon. The only way to get 'em is through the Circle of Eight.

Holy and Unholy items can only be crafted by good or evil clerics. Same for Axiomatic (Lawful) and Anarchic (Chaotic), I'm pret' sure. I think they need a minimum level of nine, but don't quote me on that. But you can quote me on this: Be careful not to give such weapons to the wrong character. My friend nearly killed his Chaotic Good ranger by repeatedly equipping him with Axiomatic weapons. Not a problem if, like me, you only have Lawful Good characters...but if you like having, ahem, "philosophical diversity" in your group, then watch what you wield.

Yep. I think the Wedge/Vicks mod also enables the Homlett items.

Seriously. Anyone playing the game needs to have either the Co8 or the W/V mod installed. There's some real play balance issues, as well as basic gamplay issues, that are nearly evened out between those two mods. The game was only 2/3's finished, and those mods bring it up to 85%.

    Install the "mods".

Yeah I've install the Co8 mod and now its so much easier to get the masterwork weapons now. Are the other options like keen edge and such dependent on spells known to the crafter? Also what whould be the best alignment for crafting?

Thanks to all those helping here, if at the end I have enough info I might make an FAQ out of it to help others.

Yes. There's level and spell requirements on the crafting. The to-hit bonuses are based on your level, and any character with the feat can craft "magic" weapons. The flaming burst icy shocking keen holy all depend on spells.

What spells are need for the Burst versions?
I got the requirments for the [Un]Holy, Axiomatic and Anarchic. They depend on alignment <thanks Grey Magistrate.> but has any one got the exact effects of these?

On another note any one tried crafting a Katana? If so did it work?

[IMG] No one has mentioned that the Magic Item and Magic Armor spells can be used to make "normal" items craftable! You will want Co8 anyway, but if you can't find a masterwork or magical item, just buy the item you want, cast Magic Item or Magic Armor on it , depending on the item, then craft away!!

And YES, this does work for helms/boots/gloves etc.

magic item and armour spells making normal items craftable is a bug...

And magic arms and armour ARE SUPPOSED to be craftable... you cannot CRAFT items, you can ENCHANT exist masterwork items, ANY magical (permanent not under some temporary spell) item in DND is a masterwork item that was already enchanted by someone else, and you can just go ahead and enchant it further!!! because its still a masterwork item.

The game is intended for low-level characters as well as a realistic gameplay, so masterwork items for all weapons you need aren't really fitting. Neither is the supply of already enchanted weapons all so really extensive. Well... for me, it adds to the fun, actually.
