It seems to me that this game would be pretty limited in only letting the characters reach 10th level. Especially after playing other D&D games that let you go way past 10th. I haven't played it yet, I will admit. I can't even get the game installed on my pc. I posted a reply on the "Problems with installing" thread. I want to give this game a try by I am hearing a lot of negative things about it plus the fact that you can't go past 10th level.

Check out the Circle of Eight Web Site. They host a 'fan patch' which includes upping the level cap to 20 as well as various bug fixes and other features.

I'm reminded of an old poem in reference to TOEE...

There once was a game with a temple of evil.
Holding evil men, marks on their forehead.
When it was good, it was very very good.
But when it was bad it was horrid!

natureofreality, in the original BG you couldn't go past level 9 even with ToSC installed in most cases. The CRPG version of ToEE was created after a pen & paper module, so Troika didn't have that much leeway in terms of how far in levels it would take you. The module was not designed for high level classes. As with the original BG, higher levels would be reserved for an expansion or a sequel, but there's no word right now whether that'll happen any time in the near future, or if at all.

That makes sense, but I thought the PnP ToEE was for mid to higher levels. I've never played it myself, the PnP version that is, I've only heard about how hard it is.

Tremorden, I've seen the Co8 mentioned on the boards, but couldn't find a link to them. Thanks

Since Troika started with D&D games from scratch, with a new version of the rules, it makes sense they started at the beginning. No D&D game released since the original BG started any differently, unless it was a sequel.

I guess I will still give it a try if I can ever find a way to install it on my pc. I was disappointed with IWD 2. It was "supposed" to be 3E rules. What a joke that was. More like 3E mixed with 2E. I when I found out ToEE was 3.5 rules is was a bit excited.

Honestly, just how many levels can one get on a single module? And ToEE is just that. You don't go to an evil temple on level 1 and come back epic, do you?

Plus, it's fun to see something well-made for low-level characters, not only everything made with uberness in mind.

Who said anything about wanting to be uber? It isn't an unrealistic expectation to want a game that spans more than a mere 10 levels. Look at all the other D&D games and see how many limit you to so few levels. Heck, look at all CRPGs and see how rare it is to find one that limits your characters so much. You can't even get full character development from 10 levels. It's even worse for multiclass characters. You can't get the full benefits from multiclassing with only 10 levels. Multiclass spell casters would be even more hampered since they wouldn't have access to higher level spells. At least with 20 or so levels multiclass spellcasters could touch on higher level spells. Most people want to play an RPG that spans many quests and many levels. They want to spend the time to develop a character/ characters from novices to sometimes epic proportions. That's what RPGs are all about; character development. And do you think there is going to be a sequel or expansion to ToEE? From what I have been reading on the boards the majority vote is "No". So, I say again...That's it? Onlt 10 levels?

[IMG] Even prior to the game there has been talk of an expansion or a sequel (even Cain mentioned it several times) which would allow you to take your characters further than level 10. These rumours died down after a while, but when the game was released, the expectation was realistic. And as we've explained before, ToEE is a very limited module, definitely not intended to take a party of characters from level 1 to 20 no matter how you stretch it.

There are plenty of other high-level & epic D&D games available if you really crave that sort of play.

But with fewer levels you get more excited when you get one, and your choises will affect the game more.
