Okay, I've finally gotten the looting problem fixed, and taking platinum pieces and cloaks of elvenkind has never been more fun.

However, I am confused about the Paladin's Smite Evil ability. Whenever I try to execute this ability in combat, the white magical light (or whatever animation) flows around the Paladin, but nothing happens and an action is wasted.

Is Paladin's Smite Evil done in the same way as the Destruction domain's Smite ability is done? Do I have to detect evil on the enemy first?

    Okay.

A paladin of 2nd, or higher, lvl can choose to 'Smite Evil', I'm positive that you're with me so far :D .
When a Paladin chooses to 'Smite Evil', he or she gets to ad her Cha modifier (if it positive, or rather a '+x') to his/her attack roll, and will deal 1 extra point of dmg pr/lvl. for one melee attack!
    Example:

Tithiana is a lvl 5 Paladin with 16 charisma

She uses a longsword. She activates Smite Evil, and have 1 normal melee attack with a +6 (for her cha modifier) to her attack roll, and deals 1d8+5(for her lvl) points of dmg. Moreover she gets to add any high-str or magical effect that would normally apply (e.g. str modifier on attacks counts as normal, magical enchantment modifiers counts as normal). I'm positive that this is they way things work in the 3E AD&D ruleset, and almost positive that it's the same in the 3.5E ruleset, or in other words 'Temple of Elemental Evil'...

Hope this'll do, otherwise feel free to ask away :) .

I'm afraid you didn't understand me; I've played pen-and-paper D&D (and DM'ed a Paladin before), so I know how Smite Evil works.

I'm just complaining about what seems to be a bug in the game, because if Smite Evil is similar to the Destruction domain's granted ability (but for Evil enemies only), then there certainly is a bug.

Oh. Now you mention it, I have absolutely no idea why I thought that that was your prob. I'm affraid I cannot help you with this one, since it would require that I tested it in-game; and my ToEE version is at my flat, and I'm currently visiting some familly during the summer vacations.
    sorry.

Hmm. I never had a problem using smite evil, but I can't say I've played ToEE in a long while.

I don't know about the Destruction ability, but make sure that when you use the Smite Evil, use the radial menu from clicking on the enemy, NOT the Paladin (otherwise it just fizzles, bummer!).

    Greetings!

I have a pally in my party and the advice to use the radial menu when it is your Pally's turn is the correct response. I used my Smite on the hag and it worked great ! I dont remember seeing the graphic display for that spell though..... I did see the graphic you described for my Protection from Evil ...

    Hope that helps.

Paladins smite works fine what you have to do is right click on the mob you want to attack to bring up the radial menu and then select the smite evil. Your paladin will then properly use the smite evil ability. If you just bring up the radial menu without doing it on the target you will just see the flashy graphics and loose an attack. Hope this helps best of luck.

I bet wwitunsky's response will explain why my DETECT Evil hasn't seemed to work either, right??

Actually no maalri, the various "detect" spells only seem to work after a map change
