[IMG] After glancing over a friend’s book Power Gamer’s 3.5 Wizard’s Guide I have wanted to run a new Sorcerer build, which takes advantage of the Precise Shot feat (and Point Blank Shot).

To quote from the book: “Precise Shot is necessary for any character who hopes to focus on front-end damage or make extensive use of non-damaging ray spells like ray of enfeeblement, ray of exhaustion, and enervation.” It then goes on to show some charts on the likely advantages of taking such a feat.

Can anyone tell me if the ToEE engine would appropriate the feats bonus for spells correctly? I am afraid it won't because it is generally thought of as a ranged weapon feat instead of a ranged attack feat. Can anyone give me a definitive answer because I am not smart enough to figure it out on my own
    Thanks for any help

You really don't need a feat like precise shot for making ranged touch attacks, since they already ignore natural or worn armor (which is usually good enough). That said, I can verify that point blank shot works just fine with ray spells, but it doesn't look like precise shot makes any difference. Ray spells don't appear to be penalized for firing into melee in ToEE, so these feats would be wasted.

    Thanks for the response.

I was actually more concerned with the front end damage spells, though I didn’t make myself clear on that at all.

I assume since precise shot works for ray spells - or it would if it suffered from the melee penalty - it will work for any ranged spell such as magic missile or melf's acid arrow. But do these spells take penalties from firing into melee (as they should)?

If you don't have to do to much digging, what spells do benefit from the precise shot feet in ToEE

P.S. The book is quite interesting and focuses on a lot of statistical data. Should anyone like to know more of its recommendations I would gladly oblige.

Magic missle should be automaticall hit with no way to avoid it, so should not be affected by this at all

All spells that require a ranged or ranged touch attack profit from Precise Shot when the character targets a creature in melee.
