Paladins can't dualclass, but fallen paladins...can they dualclass? And if you can dualclass, can you regain your paladinhood?

 

No, and no. Fallen Paladins are simply bad fighters. You can get your rank back, if you have the paladin stronghold and another quest to do in it.

 

Don't forget to boost your reputation considerably before attempting any Paladin Stronghold quests.

 

Yup, or else you'll fall right back down to a fallen Paladin.

8, 6 to become a fallen Ranger. It was like that in BG1, and methinks it is the same for BG2.

 

I thought it was 6 and 4... but I don't really know. Actually, some dumb critter NPC got himself in blast, or maybe was I testing something... and I've seen that the dual-class option is accessible to fallen paladins.

From what I know, stronghold quests restore your lost ranger or paladin status. I don't know what they do to dual-classed fallen paladins or rangers. I really don't have a clue... But it would be funny to know

 

I thought it was 6 for both paladins and rangers. (At least we all agree that there's a six there SOMEWHERE). As has been stated, paladins can't dual-class, but Chev brings up the interesting question of pointing out that rangers CAN dual-class, and what happens to them when they do?

I do not know this for sure, but my answer would be it depends on what class you were first. If you started as a ranger and dual-classed to cleric (and that's what the vast majority people who dual-class ranger/clerics do) then it should be possible to regain your status because you would still get your stronghold (for some reason, you get your first class's stronghold, even if you second class is the higher level).

However, if you started out as a cleric, and then dual-classed to a ranger, you may not be able to get the ranger stronghold, in which case, tough luck.

There is one other thing I'd like to add. I hardly ever play dual-classed character, but in the one or two times that I have, I think you were able to get your second class's stronghold only if you completed the quest (for the second class) before you regained your first class's abilities. Since most people dual-class by level 9, that was a somewhat difficult proposition. Imagine dualling a ranger at level 9 to a cleric, and then having a party good enough to take out the Unseeing Eye quest (assuming you don't have a shield of cheese) prior to your PC hitting level 10). On the other hand, if you started out as a cleric, and then dual to a fighter (not that I know anyone who does this) it could be very well possible to complete the D'Arnise keep prior to getting your cleric abilities back.

 

The level that I know that counts in getting a stronghold is druid level 14. I don't know about other classes.

Rangers can dual-class, but only with cleric. Cleric is the only dual or multiclass option for rangers.

I'm quite sure fallen paladins can dual-class in BG2 depending on their stats and with no other restriction. I can't give you my word on this, as I'm not always sober when playing BG2 for Nth time, but I'm quite sure I tested it. In pen and paper 2E, paladins ended up being able to dual-class if DM allows per Complete Paladin Handbook.
