That's about it. This way it's the best thing under the sun once it's really love - granted those conditions are met. But even if it happens it's so rare a case that it's rather an exception than a rule.

The text gives to think especially in conjunction with the following one:

O agathos anthropos ek tou agathou thesaurou tes kardias propherei to agathon, kai o poneros ek tou ponerou propherei to poneron.

A good man from the treasury of a good heart draws good, and evil one from the evil [treasury] draws evil.

[Lucas 6, 45]

So, I would say it all depends on the people and their intentions. Not really good or evil in most cases perhaps, but failings tend to breed failings. If it's not really love then nothing good comes from that.

The trouble is that you can't tell love from crush or plain lust every time. Once you get involved the distinction blurs and tiny bits of all three intertwine somehow. There will always be pain since perfection is by definition out of reach, only with a good person of a good heart and good intentions when one's own intentions are also good one could achieve something. As I have already said, this is close to impossible.

I agree with Sniper here. I used to love someone who could never love me back... and it hurt. It still hurts.

Love can be the best thing imaginable, and the worst. To me it's the worst. I used to love, and still do, love a certain woman. For some reason she seemed to hate me over anything else. I know it sounds melodramatic, but I don't think I will ever love anyone like I loved her.

But love doesn't suck. Love is the most beautiful thing on earth. And the thing that hurts people the most.

I think this is what's wrong with the world.

Love should suck every day. And not just morning and evening, but at lunch sometimes, too.

 

Well, I plan to stay away. I don't want to be picking the shards of my heart up from the floor.

It may be nice, but it definitely doesn't deserve screwing up your life for it.

Wonderful as long as is lasts, but it always ends in one way or another. Then you die inside because it will cause you so much pain.

You're 12 years old. You probably don't even know what love really can mean to someone. Maybe you will change your opinion when you have experienced it just once. Love without love makes no sense to me, and life made no sense to me before I experienced what love could be like. So IMO, love is worth 'screwing' your life up for. I would be screwing up my life, if I screwed up love.

There are shards of my heart on the floor. I am sure there will be someone who needs them.

 

I've posted my opinion about this in previous threads so I won't reiterate. But in response to Eze's comment above, I will say that when you're really in love, your life will change of its own accord because to do without love would be the screw-up.

I am 13.

And there are some people who are happy and content without the love crap thing. I am one of them and will remain like that.

 

Love is great even if you get hurt in the end. It makes you feel ALIVE!
