Helm - never played a cleric of Helm
Talos - never played a cleric of Talos

iirc talos gives you ardulia's fall, helm gives the well helm and lathander the periapt of health

 

Almost forgot: picking a ring of protection +2 (and another item like that) from Elminster when he gives me the note to Jaheira

In the very origional game. Before ToB and I think perhaps before the final official patch for SoA that we all use today. It used to be that if you had a high charisma you could actually convince the artist that the ilithium compound was actually really fine quality stuff and he would take it and you would still finish the quest. Could still get the regular Ilithium to upgrade your Mace from Cromwell and everyone would be happy.

 

I've tried that with superhuman charisma with no success so I think my game is patched allready.
One more fine thing to picking pockets: having enough high skill to steal from merchants, so you can refill all your wands and it even pays well... It's real fun for a time

 

Looting Kangaxx for his ring is actually possible only in the unpatched game. Yet it is worth it. And here's the thing so you don't do it in a hurry: open the sarchophagus with a thief who has drunk enough potions of Master Thievery so that his pickpocketing is at least 180(potions stack their effect) and an activated Scroll of Protection from Undead.
