The Next Superpower?

Who will be the next world superpower, judging by how things are today, after a certain nation starting with 'A' loses its status?

 

Russia and Africa

 

Hopefully there won't be one.

 

China.

 

Yep, China.

 

China gain, for the hat-trick.

Russia, or possibly -in fact more likely- some other contry on the European continent, may indeed reach this, but not yet I think.

All of these countries have at one time been the sole superpower. It is not a question over who is next, it is who shall be first to recover.

 

It will most definitely be Africa as soon as everybody takes their hands out of their behind. Africa has so much potential but constant strife and cultural differences have seen to much stagnation instead of growth.

Not to worry though, we finally found direction and will soon be telling other superpowers to take a hike instead of the other way around.

 

Africa is a continent, made up of many countries. I really doubt they will all get together to become one superpower

I personally think that China is the one... Russia IS a superpower already, even if people don't want to acknowledge it. And with the direction it's currently going towards...

Or words to that effect anyway.

 

China, or an ever unifying Europe.

 

There'll be no "single" superpower, but some countries will gain much, much more influence: China, India, Brazil, Indonesia. China is the first in line, followed a while back by India. Russia will regenerate, like Russia always does. But I hope Russia won't become the policeman of Europe again. Europe will get into pleasant isolation.

 

Well, I have hopes that the era of superpowers will end with the US, that the US will be the last great "empire". The US is still young so it will be around for quite some time, I think the next step in political development is going to be a united world. However that is going to take quite some time, before that we will see more superpowers. Europe, China, India and so on will vye with the US for power but I do not think they will replace them.

In the future I see and hope for a globalised/regionalised world where the entire world is a single political entity. Almost all governing would be taken care of on a regional base though. I also hope this will be the end of the conflict creating nation states.

 

Dangerous topic, Aik, given that it could easily go in a direction a lot of us (inspired by you) are trying to avoid.

Anyway, my vote is Canada since we're secretly planning to take advantage of our proximity by invading the U.S. while they're distracted with "other matters", and turn them into the 11th Canadian province (or maybe the 4th territory; we haven't decided yet).

And if not us, then China.

I think that dragons will come out of hiding and take over the world

China has the potential, since it has so many people, so I guess that that would be my answer too

But it's hard to see anyone being able to take the crown away from the US, but I don't suppose any empire looks like falling at the zenith of its power

I heard a pretty convincing radio report a while ago that the new emerging economic superpowers in the next 7 to 10 years are going to be China, Russia and India (based on current small business growth, I believe).

Of those, I concur with the majority, China is going to take the helm.

 

Hopefully if another superpower rises, it will be India.

India is a democracy - 'nuff said.
