[IMG] i'm getting constant and annoying CTDs left right and center.

I've got the latest drivers, TOSC patched (installed baldurs, then tosc, then tosc patch)
I had no problems for 12 game hours, then blam! can't seem to play more than 1/2 hour without a CTD

I've tried setting my desktop rez to 640*480. no luck
I've tried closing ALL programs except baldurs. no luck

One time i tried to switch back my resolution, but got a system crash when i applied the changes (after the game crashed; after i tried to restart game and got a page fault error when i clicked on baldur's exe)

This is driving me nuts! plz help. =(

P.s. When in any rez other than 640*480 i get a shrunken screen once i attempt to load a game. *sniff*

uhm. yeah. this isn't something simple like that, dude.

Link to picture of page fault message (this is a restart of baldurs after CTD - with any CD including TOSC in the cdrom drive)

P.s.: uhm...a CTD stands for, "Crash to Desktop (with no warning or error message)"

to restart the game after it crashed, you need to close down the program in the Ctrl+Alt+Del menu. (this *might* be hidden in win98, unless you use a program to keep track of programs running)

And it could very well be a graphic card vs game problem, if it quits the game without warning.

When you have the shrunken screen try to press Alt+Tab, to jump to desktop, and then again to jump back into the game. It might resize to the right size then

I think I know what you're talking about, it happened to me all the time when I recently replayed BG/ToSC. The game doesn't crash so much as it actually just dissapears right?

No message, just click, back to the desktop right? I *think* I got around that by simply running scan disc after the annoying crashes (I realize how shaky that sounds as scandisk never really fixes anything), and it steadied out for longer periods of time. At its worst on my system it was cutting out every couple of minutes or so, then the problem eventually just went away.

Strange thing though, it happened much more in certain areas, and some were seemingly more 'stable' than others.

[IMG] hmmmmmmm...yeah, i think yer right. I got CTD'd like crazy around the area east of the Temple.

I noticed no improvement via scandisk (everyone does that of course, lol. damned microsux) I did manage to complete that map through lots of save games. hehe.

I'm going to defrag my harddrive just to be on the safe side. If this happens again, i'll be sure to let you guys know which area it occurred in.

    wish me luck. (damned microsux!)

    ===================
wild guess at cause...The game should have asked for disk2 when i chose to load a save game, but it didn't (After CTD'ing lots, i plugged in the 2nd CD before i clicked load game. I'm not really sure if that helped. *g*)

    EDIT:
dang. The defrag completed. no luck.

Thanks for the info on the shrunken screen fix...I alt+tabbed and then back to game and all's "fixed"

I'm actually pretty worried about the bug though. If noone's got a clue, then i think i'll reinstall and hope the problem's gone.
