[IMG] Spoiler if you've not fought Irenicus...

While opening my first can of whoopass on Jon on the tree of life, I noticed his fondness of "Absolute Immunity". I beat him, barely, with all five of my NPC's dying, and my lead barely surviving. We're all resurrected in Hell, but I was not satisfied with my performance. So I scroll to Page 172 in my trusty game guide, and it says that Absolute Immunity "confers complete invulnerability to all weapons except for those of +5 or better enchantment." Carsomyr is called the Holy Avenger +5. The Staff of Magi hits at +5 according to the item description, and the Sling of Everard is called the Sling of Everard +5, which would indicate to me that it should be a +5 weapon. So why, praytell, do none of these weapons have any effect on mighty Jon Jon? With some good spells and a bit of patience, I beat him with my entire party intact (2 NPC's were mazed!). I've read numerous opins that Irenicus is too easy, and while I may agree with that, I don't appreciate being LIED to by my manual!!!! Am I out of line?

Every body makes mistakes and I'm sure this one little flaw is well made up for in the hours of enjoyment that Baldur's Gate Two provides.

Could he have cast protection from magic weapons a level 6 wizard spell before he cast absolute immunity. It cannot be cast after absolute immunity according to the rules, but could it be cast before.

This negates all magic weapons for 4 rounds.

I cannot remember when I bet him what spells he cast.

the one fatal flaw that bothers me in all fights, is cast time, all wizzards seen to be able to cast protection spells in a matter of no time. while those same spells normalls have a cast time of 5-9. But u guess you would be able to kill em to fast if they didnt get em up that fast.

I just thought the protection spells came up fast because of spell sequencers or contingency spells. Pc/npc's can use contingency to "activate" whenever an enemy is sighted. It's only fair that enemy mages can do the same thing.

If the pc's/npc's have the ability, the "monsters" should as well.

Try using a normal weapon when the mage starts casting protection from magic weapons. I killed old Jon with a normal katana. Woohoo

And a +5 sling is not considered a +5 weapon for the sake of what it can hit. It's the bullets (which are what actually strike the target) that must be +5.

Shura: Unfortunately, it doesnt work against most bad-guys because they are immune to +1 items or less, and often +2, 3, etc..

And protections often go so fast just because of what he said: sequencers. These are the ultimate in idiocy and are so far from true d&d it makes me want to vommit. If a mage can have ready 3 spell insta-attack combos, nothing can compare. Back to the question as to which class is strongest in time. With contingencies and sequencers... well, do the math...
