ok, not sure what's up here, but every time I open the map, SoA crashes to desktop. I think I may have too many notes on the map, not sure. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Like maybe a save game editor or hex editor that can alter map notes?

Are you sure this isn't just happening in one map?
I had the same problem with one of the maps (can't remember which) and I just avoided using the map for that location. Other locations were fine.

well to ,y recolection it has done it in several places, but it does work in some places. For instance, I was in a small room where there were no notes at all and it worked fine. (Pai'an's (sp?)little spider lair in the graveyard district.)

    can anyone help me?

I have the same problems, mainly in dungeons, only the second or third time I open it and from there on. I have patched SoA, but it keeps happening.

Do you have any mods or IETME installed? This is a known problem with some.

I had the same problem but my problem was traps. I had to many traps on the ground. If you have too many markers or too many traps the game crashes. The patch doesn't affect this, it's just the game can't handle it.

Yes, it's linked to setting hundreds of traps and IIRC it's irreparable. Perhaps you could try with removing all those trap markers in places where the map won't crash, but I'm not sure in this.

So, is there a solution for this? I've searched the forums and found none.

Just speculating here, but if the problem is too many map notes and/or traps, couldn't you just go back to some of the offending maps and remove notes, or possibly summon a monster and turn it hostile to set off traps? Someone suggested that this was not repairable, but hopefully that's not truly the case.

Actually, I experienced it myself. The reason it isn't repairable is because it crashes when you view the map, or when you put your cursor over the note to remove it. Hence, it's impossible to remove the note.

And even though the traps have been set off, the notes still remain.

I was thinking there'd be a way to fix it by editing the saved game file, because that's where the problem is. But sadly, after enough searches, I gave up.

I guess that's the reason for adding the 7 trap limit in ToB to prevent crashing.

I'm assuming you can use console commands to move your party from place to place (rather than opening up the world map). I guess I was hoping you might get lucky by returning to some of the maps with fewer notes and removing them (your notes and bioware's notes alike). It sounds like some have managed to open smaller maps. But having never experienced this issue myself, I'm unsure how likely that is to work.

Otherwise, perhaps there's a console command to remove or hide notes for a given map? (an expert on console command will hopefully chime in).

If you haven't posted/searched on Bioware's official boards, you should definitely try that.

By the way, just how many notes do you have to add to get this to happen? I add notes somewhat liberally (e.g. I tend to add a note for each "door" in the graveyard district so I can remember where it goes, and I "note up" all mazes to help me get through, etc. I've never had this problem. So I'm guessing that one has to be a real note freak or perhaps have some bad luck (or maybe a little of both).
