[IMG] I'm not sure which Forum to place this in, but if it gets moved, no big deal. Anyway, I was wondering how much influnce what I do in BG1 affects the story in BG2. I have already played through BG2 and just got BG1. For example, If I don't have Jaheira and Minsc in my party when I end BG1, will I have them in BG2? Also, Viccy had died in BG1 will I still be able to save her in BG2? Also, what happens to any characters In my party that aren't allowed in BG2? Do I just lose all my equipment or do I lose it all anyway?

I think you only continue with your own self made character. Don't know for sure though. Have never played BG2.

[IMG] In short, it has no effect at all. If any NPCs died in your BG1 game, they'll be alive again in BG2. You'll see how they justify this when you play the game. All NPCs are fixed in BG2 and whether you had them in BG1 or not makes no difference.

As for the equipment... You'll be able to find one or two items (hidden) in the starting dungeon, but aside from that, you'll lose everything you have on your imported char. Even spells if you're importing a mage (the entire spellbook gets erased). So importing anything in more or less pointless.

[IMG] Well this news is rather disappointing. :almostmad: I thought BG and BG2 were supposed to be one continuous story line. I didn't expect the items to carry over from what I know of the start of BG2, but I was hoping that Viccy would stay with me through everything and that I could prevent certain people from dieing. :sosad: Oh well, I guess you can't have everything. I'll probably finish BG anyway. Thanks for the help Tal.

It CAN be one story, if you continue BG2 with the same party as you played BG. But you can also play the BG2 without having played BG, however the story about you as a Child of Bhaal continues and you really missed a things when you didn't play BG. You missed the death of Gorion, the problems you had with Sarevok (who returns in BG2 as wraith and in BG2 TOB as living again) etc.

But you can also play BG after you played BG2, it wil lstill be great.

[IMG] Headbanger, how can I play with the same party in BG2 as BG? Tal just said that all the NPCs are fixed in BG2. For example, I just found Kivan but he doesn't appear in BG2 unless he is hidden somewhere and I never found him(never heard of him either). Is this somehow possible? :hmm:

    Edit:

If the answer somehow reveals more of the story of BG beyond Chapter 3 please don't post it.

Another question then: I removed Jaheira from my party and assumed that if I didn't pick her back up she wouldn't be in BG2, am I wrong?

No, certain NPC's will be in BG2 regardless of if they were in your party or not, and regardless of whether they died in BG or not. If you dump Jahiera, she will show back up the the friggin starting dungeon in BG2 and you will have to dump her again. If Minsc is dead, he will show back up in BG2, etc. Most everyone has some sort of exucse as to why they are alive again, but with some (such as Minsc) it doesn't come up...guess the designers thought everyone played with certain characters.

And you can't necessarily play with the same party throughout the series unless you plan it that way before hand (with inside knowledge of course). For instance, having Coran or Quayle wasn't possible in BG2 (much to my dismay). I could only have Minsc back in my party in BG2. That was it out of 5 npc's. Ah well....that's the way it goes I suppose. NPC's are expendible, after all ;)

I meant that sometimes it is possible to play, or at least continue with the same party as you played BG with. But indeed, it isn't always possible. It is impossible to make the game so that this goes always right... unfortunatly...

[IMG] Well, there is a point in importing characters to Baldurs gate 2 from baldurs Gate...

If you roll some good stats i Bg, and then play the game and finds all the tomes, then you will get great stats, and they will be the same if you import your character to Bg2, im doing that right now, just playing thru Bg:TOSC, just to get a nice character to Bg2... :)

Indeed, that's the main benefit of BG. The tomes. So when you like to play with very powerful characters, you really should play it :)

That, unfortunately, was exactly what I didn't want to happen. :wail: I bought BG so that my story would be different going to BG2. Maybe have different characters and as mentioned before, certain characters wouldn't die. Also I wanted to have Imoen stay as a thief longer or maybe never dual to a mage, etc. The last thing I was worried about was my PC stats.

[IMG] I never worried about my PC stats either - I played BG1 followed by BG2, and was instantly struck with the discrepancies - when I finished BG1, I had killed Minsc (for not helping him), and Edwin (for being an arse), but wound up with a party of Ranger PC, Kivan, Khalid, Jahera, Imoen,Qualyle - having played BG2 all the way through, I am now starting BG1 again and trying to keep the party to the plot lines I know are coming....which means no more Kivan:(
However, after all this rambling, BG1 was a great game without knowing about BG2, and I guess vice versa - but to play it with the continuity, you need to know what is going to happen. On to ToB for me......

Magnus, if the story for BG2 changes now you bought BG? Yes. At first, you no longer know your character from level 7, and you didn't understand the dream with Imoen, the talks about the past, Gorion, Sarevok.... Play BG and it will be clear. You already played BG2 I suppose so I would advice at least to have Imoen in your party, for she is important for BG2. As said, some NPC's returm in BG2. When you play BG and BG2 with almost the same party, you have played the strories of BG and BG2 with the same party, so you made one story out of two. It's up to you. Play BG, the game and the story is great on it's own and it surely will make BG2 more interesting and the story better!

Well the party doesn't have to be exactly the same. Only the fact that your main character also played BG and BG2 gives the game and story in ToB much extra value.

[IMG] The bard Garrick (or is that another name from somewhere else?) makes an appearance in BG2 (trying to woo the female guard outside the Paladin stronghold place). It's one of those little touches (the story develops as you go back- if you're a Paladin doing the quests you find out anyway) that makes BG 2 etc. so good.

Semi-spoiler: Actually, quite of few of the npcs from bg go to bg2, you just can't get them in your party. Like Garrick, as mentioned above, and Xzar, just to name two.

Better that those two not return in my party.. Xzar and Garrick are the most annoying NPC's there are.

As far as dead people showing up in BGII, I never really had a problem with that, because if I can drag someone to a temple to be raised from the dead, I figure anyone could pick up any number of corpses and bring them to a temple to be raised or raise them themselves via a raise from the dead scroll.

I do miss some people immensely, tho, and after getting another NPC up in levels etc. It is kind of upsetting. But that is life, I suppose in the RPG world.
