From the greatest movie of its genre:

"I tried to play husband... tried to taste the life of a simple man, but it didn't work out. So, I took a souvenir."

And now you understand. Anything goes wrong, anything at all... your fault, my fault, nobody's fault... it won't matter - I'm gonna blow your head off. No matter what else happens, no matter who gets killed I'm gonna blow your head off.

    Big Jake.

I always thought that would have been better had Clint said it.

    Big Jake it is.

I disagree, I believe the statement is more powerful when said by a traditional 'good guy.' If Clint says it (comes close in the Dirty Harry flicks) you think 'good line.' When the Duke says it, and means it, you think 'this is man willing to do anything to save his grandson.'

I see your point in this case, but Duke vs. Clint is simply a matter of preference IMHO.

I have always thought that Clint has "one upped" the Duke in all realms of film. For example, the Duke makes a great "swan song" western like "The Shootist" and Clint tops it with "Unforgiven". My favorite John Wayne flick is "Sands of Iwo Jima"; Clint's directorial work on "Letters From Iwo Jima" blows "Sands" out of the water (figuratively) as its one of the best WWII flicks ever made...it all comes down to taste. Now my wife, she can't stand Eastwood but LOVES the Duke, especially in all of his team-up movies with Maureen O'Hara (esp. Quiet Man and McLintock). I like both actors, but Clint wil always be my favorite of the two. On a side note, my favorite western is actually "Destry" -- weird choice, I know, but I think Audie Murphy does a great job in the role for a war-hero-turned-actor.

Anyway, on to my quote...a less obscure than yours and more recent, but I watched it last night so it's fresh in my mind -- this is one that only THAT actor could have delivered properly:

"No, what you have are bullets, and the hope that when your guns are empty, I'm no longer standing, because if I am... you'll all be dead before you've reloaded."

Do you want to see a guillotine in Piccadilly? Want to call that raggedy-ass Napoleon your king?

Crap, JSBB, you beat me to it! Cap'n Jack Aubrey's the man, though I'm not sure that "raggedy-a$$" was a common colloquialism in early 19th century English dialect. Sounds more like something an early-90's gangsta rapper would say.

    :p

It is from Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was the set-up line for the often quoted "it's the mileage" line.
