I have two bows that have innate abilities and when I click on the abilities button which I access from right clicking on the item, the bows I have for instance, give a list of arrows. Arrows +2, Fire Arrows, Ice Arrows. I can select one and the abilities menu closes. What is this? Does the bow shoot these arrows out itself because if that's the case, I can get rid of all the stupid arrows I'm holding. If not, then what is this used for?

That's a bit confusing, but the game simply lists arrows you have equipped in the quiver slots as "abilities" in the weapon's menu.
Irritating but quite normal since BG1, it's just another way to select which arrow to fire.

Blah! I was crossing my fingers I could rid myself of arrows ;) Thanks for the quick reply, although I'm at work and can't play, at least I'll know for when I get home.

No worries, you CAN rid yourself of arrows soon enough. There are 2 bows in the game that don't require ammo to fire, one's the Gesen Bow and the other one can even be bought in Trademeet after you finish the main quests there.
But even with those, it can still be nice to carry some "special" ammo, like acid arrows or arrows of dispelling.
