I know that being a specialist mage gets you some extra slots; but, does it also affect the spells?

If you are a specialist in school X, does casting a spell from X get any bonuses?

No, but you can't cast any spell from your opposition school. Also, you get a bonus to writing spells IIRC.

Yeah, I always thought that specialist mages should be more "specialized" in their type of magic, maybe giving a casting level bonus to them when using spells from their school of magic. This would encourage the player to use this type of magic more often, so you wouldn't pick a spell school only based on it's opposite school.

Do they also cast spells from their schools faster? Or am I delirious when Edwin conjures his pets faster than Jan?

IIRC the only bonus a specialised mages has is his increased number of spells compared to a normal plain mage. However, I may be wrong there ....

    farthy,
btw - you didn't equip the robe of vecna and the amulet of power on Edwin by any chance .... ? :holy: ;)

To bad they don't have it like in the orginal pen & paper D&D. The specialist's targets would recieve a -1 to thier saves and Invokers gain 1 point of damage per die. Hence Magic Missle would be 1-4+2 per missle and Fireball 1-6+1/level up to level 12; Nasty damage.

Edwin might be casting faster because of his amulet too! I can't be bothered to test though...

    No.

Edwin's amulet provides only two bonus spells per each level to memorize in his book.

[IMG] I always thought that spellcasters with high intelligence cast their spells faster, but I must be wrong: The manual sais nothing about it and I can't find it on the internet either...and I realy have no idea why I thought that.
Edwin has a higher intelligence then Jan, though.

    No.

    INT/spells are in connection as:
higher INT - higher chance to copy the spell in the spellbook
higher INT - more spells to add into the spellbook

Ah, they were probably casting a different spell, right? Some spells have faster casting speeds than others.

    OKAAAY...
Nevermind, I guess I'm delirious. But I somehow remember that Edwin was casting Monster Summoning III (or II). But thanks for explaining what that darn necklace does anyway.

Are we not straying off topic a bit here? I agree that specialists ought to have more bonuses for their school. Without more bonuses I don't know if school specialisation is even worth it...

I think it's worth it, if you pick a good school. I just like the way "Invoker" sounds, that's enough for me :).
