    [IMG] Get this!...

I was nearly shot (literally) this morning for attempting to ask for help from an ATM serviceman:

25 March, 2005, at 8am this morning, I went to use the ATM at the student center at the University of Kentucky, my workplace for about eight years to get $20 for a man I owed.

I got the money, but the darned machine ate my CARD!!! :( So, I went to the bank that owned it, and they couldn't help me, so I then found out from a guy in the group I work for that the ATM serviceman came about the time I was out there.

I awaited his arrival, and after about 15 minutes this ATM serviceman appeared on the scene, so I got about 30 ft. from him, and as I was about to ask him if he could help get my card out of the machine, the sorry 'cop wanna-be' placed his hand ON his piece, :almostmad: then unsnapped the holster, and looked at me as if I were some kind of criminal, and he was gonna put a bullet in me!!! :flaming:

Of course, I profanitated the sorry piece of human-like scum-sucking communistic @#$%$##$@%# son of a @%&*% :flaming: :flaming: :flaming: :flaming: !!!, but all in all, is it no longer kosher to ask the aid of some sorry arsed 'cop wanna-be' when you find you are in dire straits???

It's understandable that he is wary. Criminals accost ATM servicemen the same as they accost armored-car personnel when they pick up money.

I remember reading about at least one occasion nearby where I am that there was a shootout at a grocery store when the guys came to fill the machine with money.

So, give the guy a little latitude; all he sees is someone waiting for him by the ATM machine. It was prudent of him to be cautious and to let you know that he was ready to defend himself if necessary.

I wouldn't be so forgiving if he had actually pulled his piece and pointed it at you, but all he did was ready himself in case it was needed...

Well, if he did that, he had better hope you were armed, because otherwise, he just committed assault. (Assault is, in addition to the more common form of beating the holy bejesus out of someone, placing them in fear of their life.)

BTA, a guy should not be getting a gun out in the middle of the street. He shouldn't even have a gun with him! I don't care what you say. It's lax gun laws and things like that are to blame for all the shootings in America.

Well, gee BA, do you have any great ideas on how ATM servicemen should protect themselves from robbers?
Ooh ooh I know!! They should call the police! Place a mobile phone in that holster, and see if he the ATM guy draws it, dials it and screams for help, quick enough to avoid getting whoopass.

Those kinds of people over here never have problems. Guys who carry money from place to place wear bullet proof clothes and mask and are hard as coffin nails.

But the idea of people walking the streets with guns stuffed down their trousers scares the **** out of me. What would stop someone stealing it out of his pocket? It's ridiculous. It's just promoting the use of guns and no society should do that...

But over there, people think twice before they become ATM servicemen, those who are as tough as coffin nails easily find other jobs that doesn't involve getting jumped at near every ATM machine by armed criminals.

Guns just plain out suck. Guns shouldn't exist, instead, swords! Now that would be way better :D

I believe I gave the man some latitude when EVEN though I was in a campus uniform, and even though he had placed his hand on and unsnapped his pistol holster as I got within about 30 feet, I still bit my tongue and ask him if he was able to help, in front of many kids(college kids) and some staff/faculty, but when the sorry excuse of a whatever got semi-sarcastic(pet peeve to me unless used jokingly to me....) and still looked at me as a criminal he should put down, I think giving the man any more leeway would send a signal that because he wears a rent-a-cop badge, and is allowed to wear a pea-shooter that he is greater than I, and I will never allow such a thing, as I have had to deal with that type of person, they usually have the 'God-complex', and I would never yield to such an attitude.

Also, if he would attempt to draw on me, what would you think he would do to one of my artistic students in my Reynolds I building that prefer alternative ways of dressing?? I would hunt him down  if the man hurt or even drew his pea-shooter on one of my artistic kids only because they wanted to request his help, or die trying!!

Wow. The truth comes out. Seayer threatens a jumpy rent-a-cop with an itchy trigger finger by walking.

    You menace to society. :D

    @Jaguar

Oh, I don't think I'd walk if he hurt one of my kids.... I am a ten year Army veteran, and I think I could make the man's life quite horrible, especially since I have a buddy who has friends in the Lexington, Ky. police force, INCUDING the chief, and assistant chief, but I do dislike that kind of 'justice' unless there is no other way....

Well, I just discovered the dangers of working an ATM with a big ego. I'm healed of my rent-a-cop tendancies, and all the better man for it. I thank you Seayer for showing me this picture of When-rent-a-cop's go bad.

    Note:

ATM servicepeople have to replace the cash in the machines which means they are carrying 1000s if not 10,000s of dollars of cash money on their persons in small bills.

They need a firearm to protect themselves.

Doesn't give them an excuse for threatening someone with a firearm. Sure, protect yourself. Kevlar armor, helmet, gun visiable on your person - but don't START the aggressive behaviour.

Oh! That person looks like someone who wants money! *blam!* Better shoot them! Ah! Another over there! Die you greedy bastard, die! *blam! blam!* More of you eh?!

    etc. etc.

I have to agree with Barmy about giving guns to a Security Guard - even with the intensive two day training ;) .
