    [IMG] I'll go first:

No butter be on your milk nor on your ducks a web. May your cow be flayed. And may the flame be bigger and wider which will go through your soul than the Connemara mountains, if they were on fire.

A man without a blackthorn stick is a man without an expedient.

    and my favourit

If Candlemas is wet or foul, half the winter has gone at Yule. If Candlemas is fine and fair, half the winter is to come and more.

    What are yours?

I don't know if it counts, but I always find myself calling my son 'Mr. Muffins'. I have no idea where it came from or what it means!

Cesard - I've never heard of any of those, but I can't think of any of my own at the moment. Right now, I'm perplexed by the words in kid's nursery rhymes and songs. Most of them are gibberish.

The one that always gets me is "Bite me" or "bite my bag". Neither of those would be pleasant, nor would you want to have the person actually do so.

Heh, that's true. We got an old Dutch song about "...a woman. She took the whole Man-o-War and put it up her sleeve."

For the dutch: "...een vrouw, die nam het hele oorlogsschip en stak het in haar mouw"

Here's a funky quote I read in my philosophy textbook, not sure if its exact, but close enough:

"Our world is not one where absolute certainty is possible. If you believe absolute certainty is exists, you are certainly mistaken. That is the one thing you can be certain about." :D
