When your party lockpicks a door to a house or shop and you're attacked inside for breaking in, do you think it's wrong to kill the attackers? Just a thought...I can't decide.

I've lockpicked loads of doors and the general response of the inhabitants is "get out of my house" - which I do, and no violence follows. Even if I don't you have to be trying some to get them to attack you - what's your rep?? As a general rule, randomly slaughtering innocent civilians is not a good idea.

Aha the magic telepathy question - if you're after specific info, then try being specific. May Sarevok rip your tonsils out old chap.

Hate to break it to ya, but you completely misunderstood. I know what the "general" response is, and that's not what I'm talking about. Here, I'll give you an example: "This be Merchant League property, and I be the guard. The door be locked for a reason. You break the lock, so you criminals now. I sic my blink doggies on ye, and they eat well tonight!" <---- This is exactly what the guard said when he initiated the conversation with me, and I wasn't able to respond. My charisma is 20, and my rep is 20. No, I don't "go around slaughtering innocent civilians", and that wasn't what I was talking about. There are other areas like that in Baldurs Gate. So again I'll ask, in a situation like this one, what would you do?

[IMG] Lock the door, and hope they don't have blasters.

Whoops. Wrong subject. I would say have you tried sending a thief in equipped with invisibility poitons and the wonderful hide in shadows ability? It's gotta be better than the walk right in and hope no one calls the police approach :p. If you go break into these locked houses your intent is most likely stealing right?

It depends on your alignment. When you are good aligned, doing this is a shame, stealing from the poor and innocent.

When you are neutral it's a hard choice. Neutral is the average of good and evil. What side is stronger when it's about getting money? For evil, it is an easy choice. Roleplaying means that when you are evil, also play like evil. Rob people and when they attack you, just kill them!

[IMG] When i played baldurs gate a lot more than i do now, when it first came out; i was amazed that any peasant house i broke the lock into would look at me wonder round his house and not do anything about it until i talk to him when he threatens to call the guards (which i would promptly slaughtered) it was good to be neutral evil, the alignment of look after number 1 ideals. Anyway waht iwas trying to say is peasants are so dumb.

Bonzo, when you where at home and someone just entered the room, would you scream for the guards? And when you are now screaming for the guards, do you think some cops would appear immediatly? :)

[IMG] Yes Headbanger that could be true but in baldurs gateaux land it appears that guards do appear immediately and there were 2 of them they could easily have overwhelmed us, not.

Well they don't scream unless they notice you stealing things.... They trust you, so don't damage that feeling :) At the end you have always too much money.

That's a good tactic for an evil player Bonzo. I'll have to try that on my next game.:)

[IMG] well, about the general response thing, the guard and his dimension door dogs are an exception. No matter how good you are at lockpicking, if he sees you in the building, he'll attack.
