Nope. Saying nothing they would just hold him until he did.

In this case he made his statement, and it was one in which they could do neither. Having no other recourse, they let him go.

He used his superior British linguistics to persuade them to let him go?

    No, but seriously:

Perhaps he said something unanswerable, such as: why are we here?

Were the people religious? If not, he could have asked them if god exists or not, that'll confuse them!

EDIT: Damn you Fel! I was coming to that conclusion eventually... ;)

Wow! Good job Fel. Not quite the answer I know, but it works all the same.

The burning python passes to you. (caution, it bites.)

    *EDIT*
Answer removed to keep on the guessing (Thanks Fel). So if you saw it Saber, go ahead and post. Otherwise, I put the snake back in the bag . . . . MWAHAHAHAHA!!!

:aaa: Don't just give us the answer! Technically my answer could get you shot and hung if you're devious enough.

    /me eyes burning python warily

Where did the glowworm go? I think I'll let Saber handle this one, or if you're quick enough you can delete it before anyone else sees. ;) (I don't have another riddle anyway. :heh: )

Gotcha Fel. Post has been modified. Have you been paying attention Saber?

And it doesn't matter whether they were religious or not as pertains to the statement. Note that the requirement was a statement, not a question.

If it's still open for a guess, which it sounds like it is, I'll say:

    I will be shot.

Hah, kuemp, he gave that answer to us previously, but I went to bed before he put it back up for discussion...

Well excuse the heck out of me. I didn't see what was posted except for the edited version. I was sleeping when the previous 8 posts were made.

EDIT: I got a pm from AllDevourer saying I should go ahead with a new riddle:

I know a word of letters three. Add two, and fewer there will be.

My guess is the word "few." Add two letters, the 'e' and 'r', and you get "fewer."

Hmm... need a riddle... here's a popular logic puzzle.

You have a balance and nine hockey pucks. You know one puck is slightly heavier than the others. How can you find the heavier puck in the fewest number of weighings?

    1st weighing: 4 & 4
If they balance, it's the ninth one; if they don't, it's one of the four in the heavier group.

    2nd or 3rd weighing (if necessary): 1 & 1
The heavier one is it. If the first 2 balance, it's one of the other two, which can then be weighed.

Maximum of 3 weighings if you're really unlucky.

    EDIT:
 Just figured out a way for 2 weighings max. Nevermind. Who else wants to guess?

Pick each one up in your hand. Weigh the one you think is heaviest with another to check. That is 2 weighings.

Sorry Saber, weighing by hand does not count. That's why one is ever so slightly heavier such that you can't tell by hand. :)

It sounds like Fellnoid has it but hasn't posted the solution yet.

    How about this:

    #1-Weigh 3 in each tray.
If one set is heavier, then take that set.
If they are the same, take the unweighed set.

#2-With the chosen set of three, weigh two.
If one is heavier, that is your target.
If they are the same, the unweighed one is.

Is that the 2 time set you were thinking of Felinoid?

As I went to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives.
    Each wife had seven sacks,
    Each sack had seven cats,
    Each cat had seven kits,
    Kits, cats, sacks, and wives.
How many were going to St. Ives?
