I've got Jaheria weilding this Staff of Arundel, giving an extra 5th and 5th level spell while it's equipped. Not just in the quick slot, but actually in her hands. The second she picks up the Sling of Everhard she loses those spells (with boots of speed that thing kicks some serious monster ass. she's doin about 20-30 point of damage per round with it).
I'd really like to get off a couple of high level spells, so anyone got a clue here?

you have to decide what is more important to you and then live with that dcision.although you can always change again if you want or if it is more appropriate.
i know this is not much of a help(if you do not want to cheat ,which i suppose you do'nt)but it is a questoin of preferences not of tactics.

    Ahh well..

I've taken to giving it to her before sleeping just to get those slots filled by someone. I have her memorize some spells with lasting power, like fire elemental and iron skin, and she casts 'em both upon first enemy sighting. I'm using her primarily as heal and defense as well as mage protector (hanging in the back with them), so those both will work.

It just seems kinda buggy to me, like you should hold those spells as long as the staff is in a slot, just like any of the other bonus features on other weapons. On, say... the mirror image ability on that +1 short sword. Even if it's not in your hand you can use it. Or the bolt from Celestial Fury.

Yes I disliked that too. It´s just similar to this illogical feat that you `forget` about all you´ve learned before when you dualclass a character (I know it´s for game ballance reasons but that still doesn´t make it more logical, only justified).

It´s like this nice Katana (from the bonus pack - btw thanks for the patch) giving you this extra spells and sinmilar stuff like that. You switch over to another weapon and -click- you brain makes you forget about four spells. Of course this is kinda magic, ununderstandable for mortals like me. :o

The extra spells are lost when u switch weapons, and even incidentally switching between them in your inventory will set them off. The only solution I came up with is to equip Zerkoth Blade in the off hand, and never take it off :) Means I can't use any missile weapons at all, as even darts are not allowed to be paired with dual wielding, but for a kensai it's not such a big loss :) Btw I wonder is ability to use darts by kensai a bug in the game or are they perceived to be different to other missile weapons?
The other thing is exactly what u have been doing, using those spells as soon as possible and remembering to equip the staff before sleep, but this seems to be rather frustrating. There's also staff of curing with the nice -2 AC bonus *while equipped*, which I seem to carry in my inventory all the time, since I can't imagine Minsc fighting with a staff, or hmm Keldorn for that matter :)

[IMG] You´re right, but for a Kensai I still prefer single weapon style for the AC bonus, for it´s somehow closer to what I imagine a samurai to fight like and certainly for the improved hit dice.
The only char I like to dualwield is Minsc for this seems suitable for a berserking ranger :D

However, your dualwielding trick doesn´t work with staffs and other two handed Items. So it should be possible to block the second weapon slot at will to prevent this.

Well actually berserkers used to fight naked and without weapons. :o :o :o
Apart from that: Minsc like other NPCs prof are distributed so incohearently: two points in dual and in two-handed. Thats what makes the non-fighter NPCs so attractive, they don't have this problem.

[IMG] Basically I agree Sorl, except that Minsc´s dualwielding prof slots are a result of him beeing a (slightly deranged, berserking) ranger. :)

And: BG-2 is discriminating left handed people. Imagine, your char is specialised in single weapon style AND left handed. Equip his left (shield-) hand only with a weapon. He won´t get the single weapon AC-bonus and receive the dual-wielding malus. :o
    Must be a bug :D :D

    Civilized people allow discrimination?

    Hmmm...

Hey you, you're black, you can't shop here!
Hey, you're Chinese, you can't eat here!
We don't serve no honky-a** crackers here!
You're left handed, you can't ride my bus, or utilize Sword and Shield style!

    Civilized, eh?...

[IMG] Hi Amon: Wha I wanted t say is that we in old europe behave just as good/ bad as anyone anywhere else (possibly cynical) but here it´s unlikely that you´ll be sued for 1.000.000.000,- $compensation when we don´t :D
But possibly I´m just spreading a prejudice. :D

Eh, in accordance to what someone mentioned about samurai fighting with single weapon style type thing...

The truth is...since I practice Kendo (The way of the sword) derived from the way that the Samurai used to fight, eh...Katana, when used alone, were wielded with two hands.

However, it is also quite common for the Samurai to wield a Katana and Wakizashi...which i haven't learned to do yet because it requires great arm strength, but hey...It looks cool.

Btw, we use bamboo staves lashed together...not real blades, it's fun...should try it.
