can anyone tell me how i kill the monster: "balor"
he is in the underdark and the "goldeback" dude asks you to kill it... i breached the monster several times but can't get all his spell protections of... all weapons are ineffective! thanks

Firstly, welcome to the Board.

I believe that the BGII solution here on SP covers the Underdark section. Dan Simpson's walkthrough should also cover that part as well.

As for the Balor, it has considerably high Magic Resistance (around 65%, IIRC), and can only be hit by +3 weapons or higher. You can use Lower Resistance or Pierce Shield to make it more vulnerable to magic. If you have no +3 weapons or higher (which you really should by this point), then you should be able to scavenge some off the Drow or other enemies in the Underdark. If not, then you'll just have to resort to magic. Furthermore, the Balor can frighten and stun you and your allies. A Resist Fear spell is probably the best way to prevent the former; there are no catch-all ways to prevent stun, so I suppose you'll have to hope for the best with that.

You can also use the 6'th level cleric-spell Bolt of Glory, it hits regardless of magicresistance and does decent damage to demons.

And if you're lacking +3 weapons you can first cast stoneskin with your mage, then shapechange into a gnoll-fighter. This tactic is also great for the irongolem in Nalia's keep.

Afraid not, Instantly. Every time you turn into the Slayer, your rep. drops two points. Oh, and you can't stay as the Slayer for too long or you'll die. Drawbacks suck, don't they?

only way to win for me is to turn into the slayer... but my rep is 9 now ...

If there are temples in Ust Natha you can donate to raise your reputation.

 

how much do you need to pay for 1 rep point??

This is getting off topic, but you can just consult your BG2 Handbook for the amount you need to pay to increase reputation. It depends on your current one.

Funny why your reputation increases when you contribute to a Drow temple.

Hey, if you're having trouble in the Mindflayer lair, you can't go wrong with Chaotic Commands, which is the only level 5 spell my clerics were packing. Then, you don't have to worry about the psionic attacks, just the brain sucking, and that rarely happens, but if it does, just keep all characters with low INT scores away from the mindflayers.

Oh yeah, if you've got a mainly good party, don't let your rep drop below 6 or they will leave, so I wouldn't change into the Slayer again for quite some time.

If you have mage/clerics above lvl 15, summon skeleton is DEFINITLY your best chance. They're immune to psionics, charms. They're basically the same like invisible stalkers but they pack allot more punch and do more damage, too.
