Which Sorc Spell to Pick?

    Well Venutia is now lvl 17 and her final SOA spell picks are (in case anyone wants to know):
    1)Cromatic Orb, Friends, Identify, Magic Missile, Spook
    2)Invis, Knock, Melf's acid arrow, Mirror image, web
    3)Fireball, Fire arrow, Haste, Melf's Minute Meteors
    4)Greater Malison, Improved Invis, Spider Spawn, Stoneskin
    5)Breach, Chaos, Lower resists, Spell Immunity
    6)Chain Lightning, Death Spell, Prot. Magical weapons
    7)Proj. Image, Ruby Ray, Mordenkainen's sword
    8)Abi-Dalzim's, Spell Trigger

    i like the spell you have chosen Isshy. i would not though chose invis AND improved invis.

    Invisiblity is great for getting the sneak on monsters. Like dropping fireballs and cloudkill spells in tightly packed rooms, if your invisible and you use the room clearing technique the enemies won't rush after you. They will simply stand there and take the damage. At high levels you know some of the area effect damage spells do insane amonts of damage and last a while. Take that fiflthy Kua-Toa! :D

    I don't understand the charm with dropping cloudkill's on monsters that can defend themselves.

    When I play a sorcerer, the kick is actually running into the enemy hordes heady with arcane power and seeing them die in their futile attempt to harm me.

    Sadly, that trick even works on [snip] :shake:

    I've just finished the 2nd sorcerer's run. This time I planned to use disable spell like greater malison + spook + chaos + web, but there's just not enough lv5 spell for me, damn it. So I ended up with confusion - with a sequence in mind : greater malison + confusion + web, looks quite good, however there's no point doing this when you have the staff of cheese :(

    Here comes the list :
    lv1 : MM, Identify, spook, protect from evil, burning hand.
    Heh spook isn't that great, badguys still come after me, burning hand wasn't used once, I really should have taken Protect from petrification and friend.

    lv2 : Mirror image, invisible, knock, web, remove fear.
    Not much use of web, since I can't weild Arbane, and I have no fingers left to even wear the Ring of Gaxx. Used invisible a few times in the early stage.

    lv3 : Remove magic, skull trap, protect from fire, flame arrow, Melf's meteor.
    Ahh, this is hard. Remove magic is definitely worth, it bypasses magic resistant and even works on liches. Skull trap for the sheer magic damage. Melf Meteor seems to be a must till got the staff. Flame Arrow can hurt much, load up in a sequence then It becomes the doom to anything not immune to fire, but nothing can be resolved with a few skull traps, this spell didn't shine much since I was solo. Protect from fire, I don't know why I took it, really :cry: Maybe I will change it to haste or slow

    Lv4 : stoneskin, greater malison, improved invi, confusion.
    Mostly used stoneskin, greater malison. I took fireshield-blue, but it does a horrible low dmg, I replaced it with confusion

    Lv5 : Sunfire, Spell Immunity, Lower resist, Animate dead.
    Hehe, skel warriors're just wonderful, couldn't skip it :D
    I took sunfire first though, then went bang-bang the Desolar inn, the sewer toll keeper, the Promenade Inn, and the Guarded Compound. Nice loot :)

    Lv6 : True sight, Protect from magic weapon, protect from magic energy.
    Damn, I have never used PfMW, don't know what was in my mind. Those should be chain lightning and summon nishruu :aww:
    I was going to use PfM on Mordy - makes it perfect immunity, then freely fire skull trap to the crowd, but that doesn't work, Mordy still turn on me. And one more thing, Mordy can be charmed, luckily that Firkragg still goes after the charmed sword. I don't need to remove magic it ^^

    Lv7 : Mordenkainen sword, Finger of death, spell sequencer.
    I regret that I didn't take FoD first, makes the twistrune battle so hard. This is truly a wonderful spell. I was wondering which one to take from Delayed fireball, FoD and Prismatic ray. Now I'm glad about my choice :D

    Lv8 : ADHW, spell trigger
    Not many choices, I would like a symbol stun if I had one >___>

    Btw, I didn't take project image because I want the big number of my kills :shake:

    They do that even if they are paniced? Burning hands do decent damage and finish of trolls, but generally when you are that close 1st levels spells are not what you want to use.
    Friends effect is significant in the more expensive purchases. It can net you ten of thousands of GP over the game (not that you need it).
    The times when someone is petrified are so rare. Scrolls should work just as well.

    Web is stackable and has nice penalty to the save. If your fighters or summons have free action the advantage is significant especially early and midgame.

    It’s not that low. The trick is being hit by as many enemies as possible. Just make sure your AC is really low so that they can hit every time.

    Cool idea, the summons inability to take hit’s for the greater good is annoying especially the non-sentinent swords.

    The staff provides too much protection. I just need more damage spell ^^

    I want Protect from pertrify and friend because it's really good in the early stage, even if I will use it for like 3 times in the whole game. Same like invisible and melf's meteor :)

    greater malison + Web + web is cool, but I when I have spell sequence I don't need much protect. This spell should shine better with a kensai dualing something with Arbane :D

    I prefer mages but here are the best picks for a Sorc. (my mage can not live without them!):
    1st level:Magic misile,chromatic orb,burning hands,protection from evil,friends.
    2nd:Mirror image,blur,web,aganazar's scorcher,strength.
    3rd:Fire arrow,fireball OR skulltrap,slow,haste,then something you fancy.
    4th:Stoneskin,greater malison,improved invisibility,ice storm(I like it),and something you fancy.(secret word may be or minor spell sequencer.)
    5th:Breach,lover resistance,animate dead,cloudkill,chaos,cone of cold OR sunfire. (um,this is 6!you can cast cloudkills via wands.)
    6th:pierce magic,chain lightning(it is devastating with spell sequencer,stick three in it and watch the show!),disintegrate,(for enemies with no treasure only),death,true sight.(not if you have Keldorn or a good cleric)or contingency.
    7th:Finger of death,project image,spell sequencer,mordy's sword,ruby ray or powerword:stun.(effective against enemy clerics or low hp enemies.)
    8th:Abi Dalzim,Symbol of stun,spell trigger,smilacrum,maze or powerword:blind(it totally blocks ranged attackers)
    9th:Time stop,İmprisonment,Powerword:kill,spellstrike,wail of the banshee(very cool spell)
    The list is not perfect,but I hope it helps.

    I've just remembered that when I was a novice to the game, it was very easy to confuse Power Word spells and cast Power word: Silence instead of Power word: Stun. Also, I could take Abi-Dalzim for Finger of Death and vice versa. For this reason, I tried to take only one of these spells. :)

    Didn't anybody else meet with this problem ?
