Some Weather We're Having. . .

Tucson, Arizona is hot. Very hot. Winters are a comfortable 50-60 degrees Farenheit. We have two seasons: Dry, and Monsoons. Monsoon season comes around twice a year generally, mid-summer and mid-winter.

This time of year monsoons might still be going, but are usually over with. This year though, we haven't had a real monsoon yet. The monsoon is a tropical rain that is characterized by extremes of lightning and thunder, heavy rainfall, and short duration. Furthermore, a monsoon occurs mid- to late-afternoon. Rain coming in the night is just a thunderstorm.

That said we've had within the last two months nearly 9 inches of rain. All from tropical storms. All occuring at night or early morning. Needless to say this is very atypical of the region. I was just curious as to home many other regions of the world are experiencing almost unnatural weather either at the moment or earlier this year.

 

Well my home state is on fire at the moment. It's pretty typical of Montana but not this late in the year.

 

Wow; sounds like Newfoundland has been getting all of Arizona's rain.

We'd had a fairly nice, sunny June and July, but for August, the sun decided to go away for most of the month - plenty of full-on RAIN, along with weeks of the usual 'newfie drizzle'. And it got rather cold, too - going down from the 80's at the start, to midday temps in the 50's.

It even started creeping into September, but it seemed to stop for Labour Day weekend (that Friday was rainy, but it stopped, and didn't rain at ALL again until this Thursday.

All said, this isn't very typical for Newfoundland; we often get wet summers, but just as often get 'scorchers' in the 90's - it's the spring and fall that are usually the wettest. But to get both a wet summer and a dry summer...

 

It has been quite warm over here in Scotland these last few months too, though not to the extent you guys get. This weekend especially seemed to be the glorious last stand of summer before winter sets in.

It'll rain soon though; it always does.

 

Right now pretty much all of the western US states are on fire. Utah has a bunch of fires all over the stare, and last I heard, California has dozens of wildfires buring right now, and not enough firefighters to put them out.

Not much rain at all this season...but for the most part, it hasn't been as hot as it usually is around here this summer.

Well, we're taking the brunt of Florence now - what's left of her.

Last night Environment Canada had 100mm rain forecast in a warning, as well as 70km/h winds, gusting to 120.

I woke up this moring to find the basement aparment's floor dry, so that's something...and obviously my ISP hasn't gone down (yet) but if I'm lucky, the storm'll shut down my place of work!

 

Finland still enjoys of warm weather, even thought it should be much colder by now. Hasn't rained too much, either...

Well, snow shall redeem this small issue of unbearable heat, when it finally comes
