So, out of sheer boredom (a powerful faction in any action) I decided to start this topic. So, constructed languages, does anyone have any experience in this? Does anyone have opinions about it?

I'm starting this topic partly because I'm creating a constructed langue myself (it's not going to be delicate or anything, I just need something that functions for a race I created. It's crude in mechanics, but it still works), and partly because this has simply fascinated me for a long time.

For anyone who doesn't know, a constructed language is a language that hasn't developed naturally, but has been created by inviduals or groups.

Well, no need to make it longer than it is. So post away.

@ Daie: It's a bit sweet for my taste.

In all honsty, I have trouble with just English. I wouldn't mind learning the Elvish from J.R.R Tolkins Lord of The Rings though. Its such a beautiful language. :)

[IMG] I've designed several languages for Chirofen and worked on grammar and a few words. They're pretty simplistic as I'm not good on languages :(

It's quite fun though, as soon as you have the general idea of the 'shape' of the language then it all becomes so much easier to think of the style of words to use and pronunciation. Different Alphabets are quite fun too. Especially in diaries or notes left around the house :xx:

I have an opinion on it. It's very sad. Drink some beer, go to some clubs, shake some booty. Or, just get high. Anything but make your own language. There's levels of geekiness to which you should not steep. Not my words, the words of Top Gear magazine.

Don't know if counts or not but I have been making up my own words since I was a little one and of course there was pig latin.

I wish I knew how to construct my own language. I would like one for halflings.

I like the idea of an artifficial language. Wanted to learn Elven but realized that I should rather concentrate my attention on my abyssmal French. ;)

Although, just the idea of telling my completely un-geeky friends that I speak Klingon (which IMO is even worse), makes me consider it simply for the hilarity of their probable reactions.

There's Esperanto (ewww) but I dislike them generaly. I, for one, Strongly believe that the richness of a language came from the its long history and the culture attached to it. So faking it is just plain wrong in my book

On a :yot: note, Volapük, one of the first constructed languages, was so hard to learn that the word "Volapyk" has come to mean "Gibberish" in Danish. :D

I know a few words in Welsh, that's got to be a completely made up language.
