    [IMG] Hello everyone,
I'm new here, and I already have a question (actually, I came here searching for the answer to this question).

I'm playing a chaotic neutral wild mage, and I've finished just about every sidequest in BG2: SoA.
I'm about to travel to Suldanesselar (sp?), but I have one thing left to do. I need to pick up the ring of wizardry my apprentices are creating. However, every time I enter the Planar Sphere, two of them die :( . I'd prefer to keep all three alive, as I've heard that there's an xp bonus for this. Is there any way to keep them from dying  ?
    Thanks.

No unfortunately there is not any way to keep them alive, if this is their final test and you told them to create ANYTHING at least one of them will die. It kinda sucks, but thats how it goes.

Edit: The only way to keep all of them alive is to tell them to "Back Off" from doing anything for the final test, so either it's the items or the 50k exp and a fat guy talking about how proud he is of your students.

Moo is right. You only get the 50k XP bonnus if they all live. So if you had one of them die making a previous item, it doesn't matter if the other two die now. You don't get the 50k XP whether one dies or all of them die.

To note, the way for all of them to live is to have them make:

    1. The crappy Dagger of Charname on the first project

    2. The 6th level scroll mislead on the second project.

    3. Nothing on the third project.

I've successfully had them make Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting for their second creation and they all survived. I'm sure I read somewhere that it's partly down to chance whether they survive, except for the last set. With the last ones, if they make anything, at least one dies.

That ring of Wizardy is more valuable than 50k XP, IMHO.

...especially if you have two or more wizards in your party!

Well, that's too bad then. I guess I'll just take the ring. Now where'd I hear that before?

On a side note, I had them create a Horrid Wilting scroll without any dying. Don't know why really, as all three (!) mages in my party already had one in their books :p . Guess it comes with being Chaotic Neutral :D .

If you give them "self-directed studies", they all die.

None of them will die on the second project, so create whatever scroll you wish.

First project has some luck to it. IIRC I made a wand of the Apprenti with anyone dying.

Third project I think I read somewhere that if you get lucky, you can salvage the item after some of them die or something like that.

Oh yeah, the mage stronghold quest doesn't just end there, so try not to hurry too much to finish the game.

First one- only the ring of protection is a risk, so take the wand.

Second one- only meteor swarm is a risk, so take abi dalzim's.

Third- all are a risk, pick any task and some will die. Robe of apprenti is rubbish, the staff of power is disappointing and so the ring of wizardry is the only real choice...if you dont want the exp.

Whups. Didn't know that, so after getting the ring, I pretty much went on into Suldanesselar. Is there a way back from Hell? Didn't think so. Ah well.

    @Chiz65: Are you the same chiz65 I've seen o another, more metal/plastic dwarf-related forum?

You may have seen this, but first there is a graduation ceremony for the surviving apprenti. (They say some funny things depending on how many have exploded.) Then a group of people (mage-haters or something) ambush you in your sphere. This fight is neat; your guardian golem even helps you out. Then you have to go imprison their leader at the city gates. After that, one of your apprentices (if he's alive) will start giving you batches of potions every week. Sorta useless except for selling. Then it's over. So you didn't miss anything too important.

Yeap there's a risk...but its only a Percentage chance that your up against. If your lucky you can get all of the items where theres a risk involved.
