[IMG] Since the Mazzy thread seems to have drifted a long way off topic I thought I'd restart under a different name.
Cloudkill is Orange cos Stinking Cloud is Green. They look quite nice if you cast them in the same area. At medium levels the combo is quite effective as enemies fall over and choke. At higher levels they just save.
I agree with Syl that the Multiple Cloudkills into Fog of war is cheesey. Any PnP DM would move the dragon away, or better still towards you. Ditto surrounding them with 3 days worth of traps. C'mon guys, get stuck in - Melee, spells arrows even. They can be beat and feel as though you've achieved something rather than exploiting a programming bug.

[IMG] I agree...I killed Firkaag after I weakended him with like 2 cloudkills. Took a few hits and he was dead, no fun at all. Wooped the Shadow Dragon hand to hand, going to do the same with the Black Dragon.

[IMG] I definitely agree! My party slugged it out with Firkraag for a while! It seemed to take a long time. I didn't use any cloud kill spells, mostly individual effect spells after I lowered his resistance, and all kinds of summoned critters to keep him from wasting my party. I ended up losing my mage in the battle & Had to carry him back to Trademeet for resurrection.

I used cloudkill AFTER the dragon had seen me, kept him at bay with a Fighter with 90% resistance.

I guess this isn't really a dragon slaying strategy thread, but I'm getting quite confident with the big buggers. My first couple of tries at killing one I made the mistake of surrounding it with ALL of my hand to hand fighters. One sweep of the wings and they were out of the picture, leaving the dragon to have its way with my spell casters (Doh!) Now I leave one of my fighters back with his cowardly bow in hand and once my main melee experts get body slammed, in comes the screaming reserves with a sword or something. If you time it right you can keep the mighty lizard occupied most of the time with your low AC characters. The trick is to watch the text to see what the dragon is casting for protection spells so you can counter it as quickly as possible and try to lower its resistance as quickly as you can. (I figured it's understood that I'm hasted, strengthed and blessed)

These battles have to be the most rewarding cause you have room to do things, and you really feel like a hero for 5.3 seconds. I think I'll have to invest in a new space bar tho :)

Of course you can always just sneak in and use the quivering palm

I don't know.....something seems wrong about being able to kill a dragon in one blow.....

It could happen. There is a spot just below the left wing joint that is covered by nothing but a weak, fiberous membrane about the size of a quarter. Hit that baby and it's dragon steaks tonight!

[IMG] Yeah, remember 'Bard' from the Hobbit who dropped Smaug with a single arrow to the spot where he was missing a scale?
Those guys had it easy compared to us - no wing buffets, no 100% spell immunity.

Well add half a town of casualties to that.
