[IMG] Is it just me or does it seem like leveling up in BG takes longer than in BG II. This is because I am playing a game of BG/TOTSC to import into BG2 (Dachelke, Half-Elf, NE, Mage/Cleric), and I am now upto the Cloakwood mines and I'm only 4/3. Last time I played as a F/C and I was already a 6/6 by Cloakwood mines. Any opinions?

Well, it might be due to you having a larger party this time, or simply not doing as many quests. It's really hard to tell from that little info you gave, but I bet you just need to do some exploring. ;)

[IMG] Exploring is the key to early level ups in BG1. It does take many hours to explore everything, but there are a lot of monsters and quests there which will give you much experience.

Indeed. You can only follow the main plot, then you will not level up quick (however is also depends on what classes you play)

But exploring area's that doesn't have something to do with the main plot, will give you tons of additional XP... Try the Basillisk level... only there is already 2x7000+5x1400 = 21000 xp....

I would guess that the first time you went through the game, you uncovered almost all of the areas of the map. Thus more monster encounters. Also, you more than likely reloaded more often after perishing during some of these encounters. With more reloads, you would get more monsters. It's part of the program. Hope this helps out.

I generally find leveling in BG1 quick if you are on your own at the beginning of the game .. one character = all ex to him = quick leveling ...

Well you guys were sure fast to reply, anyhow, I know my wording in the original question was a bit poor.

I've been looking at what I did and I got to notice that I've got two members more in my party (Khalid and Dynaheir died in my other game and I didn't want to resurrect them, since I think they suck, but that's my opinion) and I did a lot more sidequests in my other game. I totally skipped the Ankheg Hole, Wyvern Quest and that sort of thing (The lots of XP-quests.).

I also have another question, how/when do I get to Ulgoth's Beard. And what is the recommended level to be at before tackling Dulgar's Tower?

[IMG] You need to go to the farm area totally up north on the map (north of the BG bridge), and then you'll be able to go to UB if you go to the edge of that map. I wouldn't go to Durlag's Tower until you're at least level 8 with everyone... Or better yet, until you're at the end of the original game.

Durlag's Tower is very challenging so it's less frustrating at a higher-level, but having said that the first time I did it I got there when I was a very low level (I had just finished the Nashkel mines and got there by accident leaving the carnival) and it was incredible from an experience point of view. Yes, I had to replay some fights and/or interactions many times to try to find a suitable strategy with which a lower level character could defeat tough scenarios. But it was a LOT of fun and I just watched my characters level up, over and over again. It seemed like every time I won a battle there was that beautiful little "level up" bing... On second and third times through the game I went to Durlag's tower at about 6th level, where it was more relaxed fun but less exhilarating.
