[IMG] i am downloading the 1.05 patch of nwn2.
i dont have any hope of solving my 0 to 2 fps game performance with this patch, so i will be purchasing a new video card.
my current videocard is a geforce fx 5500 (which is in the compatibilty list of version 1.00).
I have a P4 multi-thread processor, 1gb RAM, Win XP sp2 system Soundblaster 128-bit sound card, and make sure to clean memory of anti-virus and any cpu consuming application when i start NWN2.
My initial idea is to migrate to an ATI card, but I do not know what would be the best to play NWN2 with.
I have set every tweak option (graphics, gameplay, sound at the least cpu consuming value, according to tweaking tips i have found on the net.
    I appreciate your valuable tips.

NWN2 probably supports Nvidia cards a bit better, but it should still run fine with a decent ATI card.

For Nvidia cards, 7600GT and above in the 7 series should give you decent performance. There's no point in buying anything less or from an older series (6).

For ATI, someone here who uses their cards should be able to give you some sound recommendations.

I just bought an ATI x1600 512MB to play this game...I even have the dreaded AGP slot configuration - and the game runs fine. It's a little slow outside, but inside or in a dungeon, there's no slowdown at all!

Does a 7600GT have 256mb or 512mb? Or can you choose how much mb you want?

    Only 256MB, I'm pretty sure.

Which is better: 7600GT or 7900GS?

In other words, is the number or the letter the priority for quality?

When in doubt, go by the price. GT is significantly faster than the GS.

I loathe video card nomenclature. It always seems like they are trying to trick you like a used car salesman.

    The 7900, of course. http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_7900_gs/page4.asp

I have no problems in NW2 with the 7900GTO card at 1280 resolution and 4X quality settings. The game is very smooth and looks great. And, it is also a very good game, btw.

The 7600 GT comes in both 256 and 512. When I say that, I mean there is a 7600 and a 7650 (I believe. Same as there is a 7900 and a 7950. The only difference between GT and GS is whether or not it's GDDR3 memory on the GPU or GDDR2. GDDR2 isn't bad at all, and GDDR3 you pay an extra hefty price for, so I would just go with the cheaper of them. A 7600GTx2 (SLI), would be enough to run anything until graphics cards are obsolete.

I'm running an X800 Pro right now and I'm not having any real lag issues unless I try to spin the camera (get dizzy) or set shadows up passed low.

No. 256 only. GS comes with 512.

No. No such thing as 7650. I think it was supposed to exist, but to no avail - next generation came too soon.

No. GT's GPU clock is faster. Combined with memory speed, there's really a world of difference between the GT and the GS.

The difference between GS and GT is about 20% faster display and 10% faster rendering. Not a huge amount. Then I checked out the prices between 7900 GS/GT's and it's less than $100 on newegg.

Performace increase isn't great, but it's good enough to justify a lesser price increase :) .

The only difference between the 7900GS and GT is 4 pixel pipelines (20 vs. 24 respectively). Everything else is the same, and in my recent shopping the difference between the two was over $50. I went with the GS and everything looks great.

It's also the memory bandwidth and the fill rate, 20%/10% increase respectively.

Extra pipelines explain the increase in bandwidth and thusly the higher fill rate too tho :) .

I'm using the nvidia 7950GT KO 512mb and the game runs very smoothe, when I click auto detect in video options it turns everything on and sets them to max.

I'm loving this game btw :)
